Methods for Content-Driven Youtube Channels

I'm working with someone who is working on getting a YouTube channel off the ground with original scripted content. This is sort of new for me because the reputation of the YouTube account can't be tarnished and getting anything flagged would be a problem for them.

I was just wondering if any of you had experience walking the tightrope between Whitehat and Blackhat for YouTube and could help me out with the strategy I was going to try / is there anything you'd add? In the past they have had trouble getting traffic through YouTube itself (via tags, description) so they want to look into other methods.

Strategy thus far:
- Buying small amounts of HR views (no more than 4-5000) to make videos look more legit
- FollowLiker on Twitter and Insta following niche and pointing back to channel
- Posting on forums with videos / ranking on Reddit
- Contacting blogs for featured content, links, embeds, etc

I'm about to test these same or similar methods, but I don't know if they're safe yet. They sound legitimate to me except the first, buying views even a small amount is a violation of YT terms of service. Good luck!

*EDIT:* using followliker on twitter/insta won't violate your youtube account. But it might get your twitter/instagram accounts flagged.

Currently I have a channel and I am using these strategies too so far:

FollowLiker on Instagram - posting snippets of video on IG with "link" to original.
Posting on Reddit (always exact match keyword)
Buying small amount of views for videos with high searches per month KWs to get them off the ground

This is the one that worries me the most- what is Youtube's response if they catch you buying fake views? I've bought some in the past but I don't know if they smacked me for it or not.

In one of my tests:
I have bought views and reviews before and YT caught it right away.

I even tried buying 'manual' views which had a similar result. YT flagged the videos and took them down.

I am sure there is a way to do it, but how can you insure the details of those who 'watch' the videos.

I also think that the following matters alot in rankings:

1. Engagement: how much video is watched for
2. Comments: at what point was comment made and how long is comment. A lot of short comments are out of the norm and may raise a red flag
3. Subscription: are you getting a lot of subscriptions but low number of views? That's gotta be a red flag as well
