Remember that those who are using general comments are not retards. Think about this: you've just scraped 1 million blogs and want to see which ones are autoapprove blogs. You have every possible niche in the list but you are only interested in the AA blogs. So you just send out random comments and get a nice list.

It's funny, I've been running an experiment on a blog I don't care about and have opened up comments and auto-approve. I get a lot of spam comments and trackbacks, but I also get more traffic and more Adsense revenue. The spam adds more content for some long tails searches and the trackbacks have helped PageRank for some internal pages. Go figure
