[Method] STEP by STEP Keyword Research for Newbies

I did not really do any research on the keyword as far as the traffic etc. as I just wanted to see your process of determining if the keyword is good etc.

But yes I can see your logic.

So if I understand you correctly you look at traffic first, then you look at the backlinks, age, pr and then decided based on that alone ? You don't bother with "quotes" and all the other stuff.

See the thing with the quotes and the other stuff is that they give a good indication of how long it will take a website to rank, and I find this to be a vital because you dont want to be working on a keyword for years! And there are some keywords that are like that.

Anyways, like I said in previous posts, there are many ways to doing keyword research as long as you come to conclusion then its all good.

First gather as many kw as you can related to the product / niche you want to promote.
After that Traffic is the most important thing. You can ditch all KW that are below a certain threshold.
The list thats left, kick off all keywords that I you think will not convert (non buy keywords, etc)
Then you have a list left with keywords that might be something(which is often a fairly small list). Now calculate the kei with the numbers traffic and number of results of the keyword intitle inurl. So there is your priority what kw you want to check first.
Now you basically look at traffic travis, and if you see a lot of web 2.0, no crazy blp stuff, then its worth exploring more.
If you see a lot auf niche authorities, and you don't have one yourself, stay away.
Next thing would be the question "how easy can you get to what rank". I always looked for a website in the serps that was very similar to mine, so I could see where I could possibly land. An example could be where does the no1 intitle inurl site rank when searching for the kw without quotes and that other stuff? how many page backlinks does it have? Then you should have a fairly good feeling. I am sure there are better ways to search for similar websites to see where you could rank though. Most important for me is that almost every step signals me "nogo, dont bother any longer" or "lets keep researching, this looks nice" so I don't waste my time.

Still learning all the time, if I wanted to find out broad, phrase and exact what do I enter into google?

Is it:
Broad: my search term
Phrase: 'my search term'
Exact: "my search term"

Also when doing inurl:"my search term deals" I notice if you have a domain mysearchterm-deals.com it does not get listed. inurl only shows listings for pages on a site. How much easier is it to rank mysearchterm-deals.com/my-search-term-deals/ I wonder?

Broad: any word my term blah search blah term blah

Phrase: any other words but the order of the words will always be my search term in that order.

Exact: "my search term"

If a site is not showing inurl:"keyword" then its because the sites ranking is still low in general.

Its easier to rank for "keyword keyword" if your domain name is like this .... www.keywordkeyword.com rather then www.somethinghere.com/keywordkeyword, I believe.

Great post.

If you spend some time with the Market Samurai keyword research presets you can really take this to another level. For anyone who doesn't know, the keyword research portion of MS is 100% free.

1. Use the Wonder Wheel + keyword scraper in Scrapebox. This usually gives you 2k+ niche keywords. More if you really want to dig.

2. Import these into Market Samurai, load your presets, and let it goto work.

3. Use the SEO Analysis tool in Traffic Travis.

4. Register the domain, do some basic backlinking with Scrapebox, or by hand, get on page 1, profit.

If you target the right keywords and do proper research it's really not hard at all to hit page 1. Rinse and repeat.

There you go. Stop buying crappy eBooks and get to work.

Many thanks to the OP for posting this, cleared up a lot of confusion. When you enter insert inurl:"keyword" inurl"keyword" you'll get your real competition. But until how many sites would you still consider going after the keyword?

I read somewhere Broad Search was like variatios of the phrase, not how you will rank over time like OP said... someone is incorrect there. I thanked OP because I learned alot. I thought Broad Search was variations and any inclusions of a phrase:

"happy pancake oven"
"oven pancake happy"
"pancake happy oven"
"Blue happy pancake ovens"
"Pancake ovens make me happy when I'm blue"

You get the idea... Hope someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Sounds just about right.

And I believe you rank for the broad term as you keep adding content that is of same theme.
