interesting question.. is he smart or is he dumb ?
he definately is smart cos he just takes action and makes millions.. dumb he is, cos he always gets caught and never keeps the money for long.
at least this time he lived quite a few years a nice life...
dumb again, it was to move to new zealand cos that caught interest and i suppose this led to his arrest... if he would have stayed in hong kong he would still be a free man.
but he is still a great example of an enterpreneur cos while others prefer to read forums all day, while for others always somethn is missing before they can taker action and get rich, kimble just made it happen!
i respect that!
and even tho i dont like him from the time he sold bluebox secrets to the german media , i dont want the US government to imprison him for 20 years now what they will probably do to scare off other filesharing site owners ....

Many people have read this indictment and see that this is completely bogus. This isnt something ordinary, this is SOPA/PIPA sneaking in on the internet. Thats why Anon is fighting back, thats why so many people are outraged. This isnt just some regular thing that always happens. This was a well planned sting that targeted a share site. Because they say there were emails intercepted saying incriminating things makes the site Illegal? This is SOPA/PIPA in action and people gotta wake up!

Yes, they did. They just got too comfortable doing it.
In the US, it is a civil matter. It becomes a criminal when a certain threshold is passed. When the money is past a certain amount.
The internet is changing, and as usual the US is taking the first step.
It seems extreme what they did to Megaupload, but think about it.
Megaupload was not just a file sharing site.
It was a massive entity for storing and distributing pirated content.
Their business model was built around pirated content.
They plain out siphoned videos from youtube. They wanted to have a one-to-one video library with youtube.
Their server costs per year were into the millions....
Of course they had millions of subscribers.... because they were the netflix of pirated content.
Copyright infringement is a civil matter for the most part.
That is why it is not working.
If you find someone that is selling your pirated software...
and you sue them....
Most of these people will say... sue me because I do not have any money.
And they are right.
So the law suit costs the content owner money and nothing is resolved.
That makes it easy to keep on using pirated material and distributing it.
That is the reason that now the US is taking drastic measures.
Stopping piracy with prison works.
Piracy in large scale operations are practically non-existent in the US.
You deal in pirated goods..... you go to prison.
That stops 99% of the people.

That is exactly what happened here.
This investigation had been years in the making.... it has nothing to do with SOPA.

Do you realize what you are saying? What happened to MU can happen to over 50% of site on the internet based on that logic. Just twist a couple of words you just said here and there then bingo, they can apply this to all sites. Seems like some of us dont mind the internet being controlled. Do you not want a free internet? Do you support SOPA/PIPA?

The estimates are not silly. 500 million is not because 500 million downloads--- there were more than 500 million downloads.
Their server costs were in the millions per year.... do definitely the downloads were way more than 500 million.
500 million comes from mathematical extrapolation.
It is as accurate as you can get.
you can not say.... well most of those downloaders would not have bought the movie.... so let's not count those.... come one... let's be reasonable.

People are outraged because they dont want America taking the lead on something that belongs to all humankind, they neither trust nor consider the US government to act in the peoples best interests. This view is rapidly becoming universal outside of the US. Indeed, we saw this week that the brightest and best that America has to offer also dont want hamfisted action taken by their government on their behalf.
Actions like these only serve to strengthen the case that business and corporate citizens are more important than balanced laws and human beings.
So while the owners of MU clearly needed to be shut down, this in my opinion was not the way to go about it, I expect it will be counter productive in the longer term, and see US influence further eroded.

Guy's they are being shut down because they basically encouraged people to upload copyright files onto their servers. It is why Rapidshare stopped paying out revenue to their uploaders. This has been coming for a long time. File Hosts are ok, but they will literally have to show they are doing everything they can to minimize the amount of copyright material on their servers.
Megaupload got caught actively encouraging people to upload illicit content. Which you know was pretty much just stupid.

The problem is that in matters like this - there is creep. What starts out tasked for one function rapidly becomes the defacto swiss army knife.
This is always an issue with bad legislation approved by lazy politicians in receipt of 'donations'. One need only look at the banking failures recently to see the massive effect ill thought out lawmaking can have.
