I really don't understand why everyone is sticking up for this guy? Everyone knows that Megaupload hosted and gave access to copyrighted material. They broke the law and got caught, end of story.

This has nothing to do with SOPA, it was enforced with a law which has been around for years and has been used to prosecute and shut down sites for the same reason....in fact, it's laws like this which gave birth to the popularity of torrents and p2p software.

Can people stop trying to make out he was the innocent company owner who was ignorant of peoples immorality and was unjustifiably shut down. He was caught with his hand in the cookie jar knowing full well what he was doing....end if story.

I never said it promotes competition I said it doesn't prevent competition theres a big difference. Are there not various different car companies,Phone companies,Banks,Restaurants etc.?

why the fuck is everyone here bashing US government?? This wasn't censorship, they simply shut their servers down. MegaUpload is simply not in business anymore because it was breaking laws.

Publishing someone else's content and charging people to view it. Go ahead, make an argument how that's fair.

Regardless of the facts of this particular case. This "bashing" of the US government is completely warranted since they are all bought and paid for corrupt deceiving puppets of wall street and the entertainment industry. Now go ahead and make an argument how thats fair. People should not fear their governments, governments should fear their people.

The campaign contributions are out in the open,if you dont like who a person is getting money from,dont vote for them. If you dont like what a company supports boycott them. It doesn't get more simple then this. If you want a bill to be authored by a member of congress or the senate create a PAC and get donations to it.

right, but what does this PARTICULAR act have to do with it?

MegaUpload was a foreign company that was unfairly profiting from our products. Our Government intervened and decided to shut it down because it was breaking laws.
Most Americans would support that move.

I think it just sets a scary precedent. SOPA/PIPA that is. It like using an industrial vacuum to clean up one cheerio crumb. The problem is what else potentially gets sucked up in the process.

Now, a group of people decided that somehow that's not fair so they basically took their product, repackaged, and sold it to other people meanwhile making profits.
