Malaysia's war on tourism.

Just don't eat a bagel with some poppy seeds or you could end up arrested when you try to leave.

So that is your beef with Dubai?

Poppy seed bagels?

I'm pretty sure that you would fail a drug test in the USA for a job if you ate one also.

Look, you don't want to go to Dubai, or any other place where it is customary to show respect and obey the local laws, then don't.

As for me and my house, we respect other's traditions, rules and customs when we visit.

The mountain guide already asked them not to strip there, and they answer with "go to hell". On their Facebook profile, this guys are really looks like a frequent traveller. Idk why the fuck they can't respect cultures from different place. It's simple, they didn't follow Malaysia's law, so they were fined $1330 usd.

About some people said that earthquake caused by they're naked (not respecting mountain spirit). Although I'm not really agree with this, but most Sabah people do believe in this mystical stuff. Doen't matter if the world believe in it or not, they didn't ask you to suck the spirit's dick. Just follow the rules, adapt with the cultures. It's that simple.

That seems like a easy way out, its better to make the culture itself change. For example if a group got together and changed the taboo on beef in India they could create a $30 billion industry with ease.

tl:dr - Go Malaysia. I'll be checking prices on trip advisor next month. :)

edit: GG got in before I did. Agree 100%.
Come to Langkawi island - Malaysia.
From Langkawi you can just take the boat to Koh Lipe island - Thailand (2hours max).
Nice view, water and everything. Absolutely heaven!

The best part is (not try to be racist), it super un-crowd. Unlike phuket, krabi, pattaya etc full with drunk people and prostitute.
This island absolutely just for you to chill and relax your mind. First time I go to a place, and I feel like I wanna stay there forever LOL.

Few pics that I took via my phone last 4 days. Sorry off topic.

You can even go to jail for kissing, I don't see how it can be a nice place to visit if there is nothing to do.

The comment comes after Malaysia's highest court said city officials were right to prosecute a local couple for allegedly holding hands and kissing.

Better to stay away from muslim countries. I've been to Malaysia and its the most boring place to visit if you're into drinking and party.

Maybe you should learn to respect other people beliefs. Plus, it's not like they believe in a bad thing. If I were naked inside your house with my friends, would you be okay?

Only if it's at one of my "parties" and you're all girls.

Anyway, you should go back and read what I'd said about it, sarcasm seems to have just gone right over your head.

Gosh, Dubai is one of the top 10 places I want to visit and many of the people that I interact with feel the same. It is a beautiful country with very cool architecture, beautiful scenery, museums and it is world renown for the shopping.

You think people have an issue because you have to dial it back for a week or so while you are there to show respect to their customs and laws?

That sure sounds like some self centered {person|people}.
Dubai ? Go for it. Very well developed. Although I didn't find any problem, a little advice would be - woman must be respected there.

If you kiss in public you will go to jail in Dubai. If you talk to a woman you will go to jail in Dubai. If you take certain photos you will go to jail in Dubai. If you have gay sex you will go to jail in Dubai. If you have sex outside marriage you will go to jail in Dubai.

You can also be fined for cursing and your not allowed to eat in public in daylight during certain times of the year.

Dubai is worthless to go to unless you have your own private military to get you out if you want to do anything fun.

Ofc its going to affect tourism, its the same with Dubai, many people that would consider Dubai aren't going there over anti-fun rules.

Have you ever been in Dubai? Let me tell you, it is FULL OF HOOKERS. Yes, you can talk to them. Some hotels can be considered whore houses. It's fun. Just don't take any pictures of them naked and you will have a blast.

Even with some token hookers behind closed doors its still a bad place to visit compared to Las Vegas. Plus I'm not supporting slavery when I go to LV compared to Dubai

As a local and a member of the local Dusun tribe that sees Mt Kinabalu as a sacred place, I was infuriated when I saw the pictures and stories of the tourists getting naked incidents circulated in Facebook and Whatsapp groups.

We always welcome tourists to the mountain, and we only ask them to have the decency to respect our culture and what we believe the mountain to be. It wasn't hard, thousands foreigners had climbed the mountain before. Why would anyone get ass naked on a sacred place? One of the mountain guide warned them not to do so, but these retards told him "stupid, go to hell".

The local authorities have been looking for these tourists days before the earthquake happened. Even their names, countries of origin and passport numbers are circulated on Whatsapp. Yes, they are some old folks here that believe that the tourists have angered the mountain spirits but not everyone believe it to be so. I've experienced the earthquake twice; in the 80's and mid 90's and we know the mountain is the epic centre. We know the science. I myself does not believe that the naked tourists caused the tremor, but they should not have stripped there.

Also, someone shared the facebook page of one of the tourists, saying in his status that he wanted the "lay low" at the Eastern part of Sabah until the incidents cold down before leaving. Then , he even say that we will never find his fb because "these people dont know how to use the internet". We found his facebook page and blog. It turns out that he has been pulling this kind of antics in many places, getting into problems with locals, and write about it in his blog. I guess that's the only thing that could drive traffic to his website.

Like some people above already said: Every country has its own rules.
I know a guy got some big problems because he accidentally touched the banknote with his foot in Thailand.
Every place and every culture is different and everyone who is traveling to a country should know about the rules and the behavioral code of the country.

And to say "war on tourism" is wrong. Come on, its an muslim country. Did they really think it is fine to walk around naked or doing some sh*t? Of course they get arrested, what else? It is just the logical consequence.

But for myself...I was in a few muslim countries (UAE, Malaysia, Qatar and Indonesia) and I didn't really like it too. Just too many rules and conservative people. I knew how to behave and I never had any problem.

Dubai is very open in comparison to other Arabic countries. It has come a long way in the past 30 years and is very progressive. There is no country that will change culture from one day to the next just because some other country 10k Miles away wants them to. It just does not happen over night. It takes hundreds of years to achieve such change.

But the cultures should be changed if they aren't in align with the modern world. There are too many nice geographic regions being ruined by the current majority culture in the area.

Data mining companies aligned with a companies in a few other industries can help to change cultures faster than ever before. There would be nothing wrong with a company getting paid to manipulate the information people can view in Malaysia so that they would be open to having strip clubs and casinos there as well as being naturalist friendly.

Companies can wield more power than they did during the Titans of Industry era, and they are barely using any of their power due to wimping out for "ethical and respect reasons".

Dubai sucks, Malaysia sucks, the USA sucks, you want countries to change to fit what you think is best... Dude, you must be a bear to live with!

Dial it back some and do what my old friend Dave says all the time, "Enjoy the moment you are living in even if it is uncomfortable as you only have so many moments".

Changing a culture seems like the ultimate marketing move. Entire industries can be created just by changing a culture.

I don't want to change my culture. It's part of my identity and who I am in this world. It's modernity that should be align with culture. Just look at the Japanese. Did they abandon their culture to "get in align with the modern world?"

Culture ruins? Please..

these are the kinds of people who go to places like germany and think it's funny to walk a "certain" way, or to wave a "certain" way. but then get angry when they get arrested for it.

serves 'em right!

Because of the taboos of many areas, one cannot experience nice things that go well with the geographic layout and current stuff in place already.

Dubai with Casinos would be rocking, Thailand allowing some drugs would be awesome(they are okay with hookers and booze already). Malaysia with some nice poker rooms on the beach would be sweet. Prostitution being brought back to many traditional vice cities(such as new orleans was before WWI) would be cool.

Well one thing is for sure, you give others a different perspective to look at things no matter how far out they may seem.

That kind of thinking should bode well for you in the IM industry and I hope you allow your mind to work in that exact came way when you are twisting methods as that will put money in your pocket.
