Making money with Wiki-style site?

Hi,

I have been working as a freelance writer for a few years now. Primarily for Danish clients.

My brother and I are now looking to expand the business, which is why we started researching the opportunities within AdSense sites.

As both my brother and I doens't mind writing at all, we want to build a very content-heavy site, but we can't really figure out what the best setup is.

We have considered building a Wiki-style site within a specific niche within gaming. We are aware that the CPM is quite low, but we have plans to scale and building a lot of sites that can gather a lot traffic, why we don't see it as a problem.

Before building the site, I would like to know if anybody has experience in making money with a Wiki-style site? Is it possible to build such a site and monetize with AdSense (or maybe Media.net, Mediavine and so on, when we get enough traffic)?

There will always be a way to monetize it with ads. I think AdSense would work best, and I also think they allow such a site. Worst case scneario; use PropellerAds, they pretty much accept any type of traffic.

Whatever you do - make sure you pick a niche with a high CPM/CPC.

You don't want to put in the work of building out a large site only to make peanuts later on.

I remember creating a website about cancer when I was 15, it grew really quickly but ended up making me only a few bucks per month even with thousands of visitors.

Most likely because nobody was paying for advertising related to the keywords. I never thought of this at the time. Had to learn that lesson the hard way.

What do you mean by wiki style site?

If you are giving access to general public to update articles, you need wiki style.

Other wise you can just start with wordpress based website.

You will have options for lots of themes and plugins and customization.

I am aware that I have better chances of making money with high CPM-keywords. My brother and I have plans to build more than a 100 sites, which is why we aren't really focused on the CPM, as the total amount made should be quite high.

What I mean by Wiki-style is just the type of content we would be writing. If you choose to make a Wiki about E-sport, we would be writing a long article with a lot of information about the different E-sport teams e.g.
