Making Money From A Forum?

Hey there,
Ive recentlly had a chance to create a niech forum site something that I think could be quite rewarding but I would like to know how to make money from this site, I dont want to make the users pay to use the forum but would like to put adds on it and anything else. Does anyone know the best forum script to use I have cpannel and have fantastico but I need to know the best forum to achieve what I want to achieve. Also is there other ways I can make money from the forum and how can I do this. Thanks

Generally speaking forums are amongst the worst methods of making money online, dont get me wrong they can make money - quite a lot of it too!.

But generally once users have been to your forum a couple of times they become ad-blind.

You can make much money on forums. Adsense works.

More users more views and chance of a click. you can start up some competition to get members.

i am having same prob.. i have very good forum .. where i have posted quality posts but don't know how to make money from that forum...

best forum script is vbulletin i believe phpbb is also good.

to make money you will need traffic..and to get traffic..you need to do SEO..

Ya more Traffic equals to Money. And for forums you need active members.

been to DP? the only way you are going to make some real money from ads is if you implement a script like them, which places ads randomly in nicely selected locations.

there are two problems, however
1. the script is a custom built one, which means you cannot buy it
2. if too many users start clicking on ads by mistake, which is what happens on DP, then the amount you receive will be very less. effectively, you will be smart-priced

If you have a very niche targeted forum with good content and very active users, you could make a little money.

I have had forums with over 100.000 users each and used contextual ads. Never reached the hosting and domains cost from those.

Got a tip for anyone planning on monetizing forums. Just use g00gle AdW0rds in a thin strip placed vertically on the right side of your forums. I made about $50 in a week or two from clicks, first money I've earned online off of a video game forum. VIP memberships are always great if you have a lot of members.

You should not expect to make any money just yet.. your first focus is to build the member list... if you have no members, now money

focus on that first and in time you'll know what to do based on your members behavior

If you have a niche targeted forum you could just let them all opt in while registering so that you can send them your affiliate links / landing pages for niche specific products. should make you a bit of money
