Making #1 on Google (How I did it)

I'd like to start off by stating that I have been visiting BHW now for a few years and have learned everything I need to know from this forum. Search engines have adapted the way they rank sites (particularly the big G). I compete with multi-million dollar companies for a keyword with over 15 million results. Most of my competitors invest heavily on advertising (Adwords suggested a budget of $315 per day)

    Here's how I did it:

    Month 1
    1. Used social bookmark services (see the services for sale) x 100 bookmarks to index the site and major pages on Google.
    2. Adjusted meta tags, keywords and content on the website to target desired keywords.
    3. Wrote 3 articles (500 words each) and submitted it to 20 article directories (using services on services for sale page)

    Total cost: $25

    Month 2

    1. Posted high PR blog posts after checking high PR links on competitor sites using SEO for Firefox (great tool to spy on competitor links with the click of a button)
    2. Paid for 50 .edu profile links on services page
    3. Paid for 100 social bookmarks, this time using a different provider in a different country.

    Total Cost: $40

    Month 3

At this point, I was ranking between 3-5 for my desired keyword. I submitted an xml sitemap to Google (should have done this in month 1)

    1. Paid for 400 social bookmarks
    2. Paid for 1 PR6 link on relevant site ($90)
    3. Paid for Xrummer campaign of 5000 forum submissions ($35)

    Total cost: $125

During the entire process I ensured that I posted one or two articles per week, added social pages on squidoo and free blog sites and ensured that I had a growing number of high PR links.

It took exactly 4 months in total before I was ranked #1 for my desired keyword and ranked between #1 and #3 for incidental keywords that were related but not targeted.

    Hops this helps you!

P.S - I ended up buying software which only added to my budget. I now run Bookmarking demon and xrummer myself - the complexities in ensuring that you have private proxies etc are worth the investment if you're willing to spend enough time and have several sites. Gotta know what you're doing though!

You paid 90$ for relevant link. Could you please tell me was that in the blogroll, was it per month, per year. I usually supply PR6 link for 15-20 bucks on freelancing sites ( they are not relevant to the niche though ) and for 40 PR3 links I charge 100 bucks which is quite reasonable, may be I will start service here but I have to open an office and hire some people for that.

Finally with 190$ you have reached, when I try to count from my angle, I only see the expenditure of deathbycaptcha nothing else then that as I own a lot of softwares.

How many exact searches per month? Boggles my mind why people always talk about 'results' and not more important things like exact searches and/or competition.

Great work. I'd be interested to hear how many backlinks you accumulated over the 4 months and their PR distribution.

The number of results tells us very, very little about your actual competition...

I am sorry if I am wrong but it looks like those 'big' players have not optimized for your keyword cause from what I could read you did only a SEO that would be enough to outrank easy or at best - medium competition. Thanks for your contribution to this great board though.

I get results - 3-6 conversions on products that start at almost $7000 and go up. It is a niche and it is my business, not an affiliate site. I'm getting results alright!
