I have several mail.ru accounts which are about 4-5 years old.
They dont have any phone numbers linked.
They used to login fine after filling in the captcha.
All of a sudden I am noticing that they are asking for phone numbers , what should I do?
Is it me or everyone else is facing the same of late ?

Maybe it's a new security protocol, or your account might have been flagged.

idk about mail ru, but Gmail usually asks to connect a phone number in case of logging in using a new device. if device is the same as you have used previous time, you should not be asked for a phone verification.
you should try to log in using the same device as previous time, maybe mail ru works on the same principle

U can get free numbers for it may be an update so its required that

might just be new security protocol. comply or die.
to bypass it try accessing on different browser. or on your phone.
you might be able to get away with accessing via IMAP on thunderbird software.

With all these sanctions going around I'd reconsider adding any personal data.

There are many websites such as sms-activate.org, 5sim.net, smspva.com to buy single-usage phone numbers. Verify by using these numbers then unlink it from Mail.ru.
I don't think unlink is the way to go. I bought phone verified mail accounts . Now they are asking again.

Wow, isn't it for spamming? Use other ones protonmail, Mail.com.
Just google:
no requirement email.
Email account without phone number.
