I'm starting a new website today. I'm thinking about start some articles
with Low search volume long tail keyword between 20 and 50 search/month
in order to start this web.

Do you think its a good strategy or long tail is a bad idea?

Let me know your experience :)

    Thank you,

What's the ms volume for your main KW? You want to focus on ranking that first as that's the real $$$ earner. Then you can focus on your under 100 ms volume keywords with separate articles for each. You also need to take into account the level of competition for the KW also.

You might want to focus on broader keywords too. Long tail keywords do bring traffic but you will need a lot of content + authority to bring in sizable traffic to make some money. So yes start with long tail posts but keep working on some keywords which have 1000-2000 searches a month or something. 40 - 50 on 20 posts only means like 1000 searches a month. You won't rank on top position so chances are you will get only 5-6 visits a day or something. Don't let this discourage you. Everybody starts small but yeah do have a plan to target bigger keywords too.

Go with at least 500 to 1000 searches keywords for your articles. Its bad idea to start with 50 to100 searches keywords.

You'd use long tail very tight niche / product specific ones to support your bigger keywords.

So if your niche was Widgets, your main keyword was Square Widgets getting 5k a month, then you'd look for long tails such as best square widgets 2017, best square widgets under $300, aiming for 500+ searches.
Then dig deeper and go for reversible square widgets, square widgets for ipad, replacement square widgets.... that sort of thing.

Well, it highly depends on the type of traffic that you want to drive to your site. If you need conversions you'd better pay more attention to long tails. As well, if your budget is tight and your niche is extremely competitive you need to go for long tails again. But in general, agreed with others, you need to have a reasonable proportion of both long tails vs short tail keywords, slowly but steadily trying to reach the top of SERPs with higher search volume keywords.

If you are doing it to test the market then fair enough otherwise going for low volume keywords is often going to result in waste of time.
