I have been working to improve my PR in 2 sites for a couple of months and I dont see any result. I have posted comments in follow blogs, tried the statusnet trick to get a link everytime I post, submitted to directories... but nothing. In fact, the link counts seems to have been reduced instead of increased since august and PR is the same I had 2 years ago. What am I doing wrong here?

Sorry, cant send PMs yet, as I still dont have 15 posts. Also, the moderation system rejects my posts if I include something similar to an url. Send me your mail in a PM please.

In February of this year when Google caffeine rolled out My PR8 website went from 9.5 million backlinks to 2.5 million backlinks. All 15 of my websites dropped a point of Page Rank.

Since then I have regained PR on six of them using largely viral marketing techniques in social networks.

Statistically there are 3 tiers where PR makes a notable difference in SERP position. PR0, PR3, and something that looks like PR7.5 because it seems to only effect the PR7s in the top 50% for market reach. As soon as you have PR3 you are capable of taking the #1 spot in most keywords provided you can outperform in other areas.

I have found in the past that I can link build to PR6 myself but that the gap between 6 and 7 and beyond almost always requires viral marketing techniques on a large scale and with frequent regularity. I'm not sure if it can still be done today. I honestly haven't tried a from 0 to 7 venture in more than a year. The last time I recall going from 0 to 7 it took 10 months.

I know this info doesn't solve your problem but I do hope it gives you some perspective on the matter so you can perhaps find some clever ways around the problem to reach your ultimate goal which is probably revenue. PR is a measurement that plays a lesser role in rankings... Think of it as a multicolumn sort in excel... PR is probably a 3rd or 4th order factor. What makes it unlike a multicolumn sort is that once you have PR3 you can make up the difference in other ways using different factors to get to where you want to be in the serps.

Indeed, my sites are well ranked for some keywords. But they are mostly related to videogames and programming, so, adsense never gave me good results (and I was banned a few months ago), and neither traffic is important. Now Im trying selling text links, but buyers want PR 4-5. I dont have time or resources to build several weblogs, I focus in maintaining 2 with true original and quality content, and I would like to monetize them. $40-$50 per month is enough for me (thats my salary in my country).
