Good post and some solid points. I agree on the Social media side. I have got sites ranked from building a good social signals campaign and always build pinterest boards retaliated to key phrases. Here is one i did recently for one of my clients go to pinterest /numberdirectory

One more tip : You may be tempted to buy high pr private network links. Never buy them if you want to rank your site for long term. I mean how is the network private when they are selling it open in open market ?

I'd say quality of content matters only when your site gets under manual review by google workers.
Design matters. Try to make your site look like authority (real authority, not what called 'authority' on IM forums) site.
Guest posts work only when lots of people actually read the post and click on the link. Overall guest posts are dangerous. If such post is made on a site marked by google as post seller, there might be problems. More problems if many such posts with commercial anchors.
Go after more 50% of brand anchors if you plan to rank long-term.
