Life question

Hey guys, I am currently going to school to become a mechanical engineer, but recently I have found myself more and more interested in IM. I want to put as much of my free time as possible into IM but I find I really don't have that much free time at all and its only going to get worse.

I want to stick with some sort of engineering, but I was wondering if there was some sort of profession that uses both internet marketing and engineering? I guess software engineering would be close, but im not sure if I want to go down that route due to the fact it is so easy to outsource these days.

Any suggestions or questions that could help me?! Thanks

Have no idea what jobs would involve both, how ever you said software engineering is easy to outsource. Why don't you be the person they client out sources to? Just a idea

Follow your current career track, and study IM on the side if you want. The primary purpose of an education is to provide you with a reliable way to make a good living. In order to justify changing lanes in the middle of the trip, I think your IM would need to prove itself to be so wildly profitable that you would be stupid to ignore it. On the other hand, diverting your life's plans based on the idea that IM sounds interesting, and without any substantive result from that interest would also be stupid.

Having said that, I don't like the structure of your thinking because it's artificial and forced. Trying to compromise two different basic directions into something that fuses them together on the hope and chance that there will be a way to make money with that synthesized result may at some point be successful, but only by accident.

I think you are better off by looking at the MONEY first, and thinking about how the mechanical engineering degree can enhance the money you are already making, and how Internet Marketing can be used to enhanced the money. But start with the money first, and work-out your educational track from there. Most people do not use the focus of their degree anyways, but instead wind up adapting their education into a job that makes their money. And that's what's going to happen to you, too. You may as well adjust the education to the money, and hope you make money in a way you enjoy, than decide what you might like to do, adjust the education to that, and then hope at the end of the process that you can use what you've done to make money. It's possible, but less likely. Also founded on flawed and unrealistic reasoning and the sooner you get that idea assimilated, the less the shock will be when it happens.
