Hi all, I have a friend who works in a law firm in NYC and has access to a database of 1000s of law cases all over the US. How can this be monetized?

You could try finding a fellow prisoner who's very stupid, you may get some soap. Tip - if you drop the soap in the shower don't bend down to pick it up

Is he willing to lose his job and face legal action?
Is it online access or local access?
Is it https://www.google.com/search?q=LexisNexis&stick=H4sIAAAAAAAAAOOQUeLUz9U3MM7Is8yO4slJLFdISSxJTEosTj3FiJCBso3SKgrMTzFygdlmlhZGlVCOSU5WWnIKTKYoLb6g6BQjB4hjXlxlCNVtWpRVlAdVk2FcYWaWAZUwLMm1LP_FKJyTmp6Yo5BflJ6Yl1mVWJKZn1cMAD5AKJOgAAAA&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjBrfKG8dLcAhXoIcAKHWhmAK8QxA0wCnoECAYQBQ&biw=1920&bih=904
He is planning to quit his job soon. Online access. Nope, not Lexis.

I presume that he will lose access once he leaves his job so not really a lot you can do.
TBH it probably isn't worth pursing the idea, although if he proceeds at least he will be able to access case law and prepare for his trial!

Google provides it for free - https://scholar.google.co.uk/

It would only come to that if he someone finds out. Btw, what idea(s) are coming to your mind with regards to what it can be used for?

That for educational stuff not law cases

Nonsense. I've been using it for tax case law for the last week.

Here you go, a landmark case in net neutrality - https://scholar.google.co.uk/scholar_case?case=9224020825253625133&q=+Federal+Communications+Commission+2015&hl=en&as_sdt=2006

It depends what database he has access too.
Normally if somebody leaves a company access would be stopped/account closed by HR.
It wouldn't be worthwhile scraping the DB as it would be too time consuming and be flagged and it would be obsolete more or less immediately.
