Last Google Update Effect, White Hat or Black Hat ?

My site was ranked at top 5 before last google update hit my site and down the rank from top 5 to page 3-4 and with recent google update 8-11 March 2018 my site completely gone from the targeted keywords

I had build the backlinks using natural method aka white hat method such as PBN, Web 2.0, Bookmarking Site, Link diversity, etc has been done to my site too but it's seem had no effect

My competitor site who do comments backlinks a lots of now getting rank 2 in recent google update, even after January 2018 update the site is already got Top Ten

I had checking everything from sandbox, penalty that can be arise to my site by Google but it's seem everything is clean

I really dont understand how SEO work right now since black hat working better compared with white hat method

Should we move to Black Hat Method ?

Sorry to hear this. The methods you mentioned are mostly blackhat, unfortunately.

Are you using search console? Any message/alert there?

If you have access to your competitors backlinks, try comparing tf30+ link profile. Guest posts on non-pbn sites still works very well IMO. Avoid buying links from public pbns.

And comment backlinks are not totally spam.

Yes, I'm using search console and there is no message or alert at all until now

I had checking my competitors backlinks using ahrefs, can you please explain about tf30+ link profile ?

So if comment backlinks are not totally spam, the others link in which created using software can be said not spam too, am i right ?

It just a simple filter. I use majestic. So whenever I am analyzing backlinks, this trick helps me to quickly spot which authority sites are they getting links from. Is it from guest posts, comments, sponsorship etc etc. Instead of going through thousands of links you bring it down to manageable number.

No. You should think it in terms of moderation.

Have a look at any authority site, and you will see a very active comment section. Many are using the their links in their names as well. But the thing is not any comment will get published there. They have a moderation process in place.

Comment bots on the other hand targets blogs with little to zero moderation. As a result, anyone's comment/link gets posted - and thats spam.

So will manual commenting work?

It will work as long as your competition is low.

IMO guest posts bring better results. Not pbn guest posts that sells for 5/10 a piece. Look for sites that have an active following related to your niche.

Good comments in here.. Really though check your sitemaps, check search console for errors, run some searches in moz, semrush and spyfu, see where you dropped off and possible why.. Did you lose Alexa site rank? Do you have toxic backlinks? Do you follow best practices for SERP volatility?

First of all you are using entirely black hat techniques. None of this is White Hat.
Most likely you got algorithm penalty - its happen to plenty of websites recently.

Well, forgive me if all my method is blackhat even I had done it manually so i think my method was white hat techniques

It's seem algorithm penalty was happened randomly
one of the competitor i had talk about was used blog comments by software and I had take a look on their backlinks using ahrefs but the site still ranked on number 2

Actually, there are many factors working for Google ranking. You can't really ensure that this website is ranking for only backlinks.
When a website is ranking with spammy backlinks, maybe other ranking factors are stronger than backlinks of that website.
It's really tough which factors work when for the situation. Sometimes, Google play little tricky (my personal point of view) to make confusing marketers.

And now, seriously. This discussion has taken place a thousand times and the result is always the same. In summary, strictly speaking, everything that is called Off-Page SEO is Blackhat. Posts, sharing, backlinks or articles should be published by the "customers" and not by the operator. That's no way to earn money. Even large agencies know that.

My conclusion: We are all a little black, just don't overdo it, a slight grey does not turn out at all in the mass.
