currently using a 2017 MacBook. Also have a MBP 2016 but havent turned it on in about a month. I use VPS's for a lot of stuff so just need something to use to remote in and browse BHW & the interwebs

Non-mac options: Dell XPS 13, hp spectre 13, Surface Laptop 2
Got a Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming 7000 just now, but I'm looking at a Mac going forward.

I look a lot into the specs.
And every time I see the price tag on Apple products I go, "man fuck this, I can get way better specs for this price if I go for windows/android"

Whatever you get, make certain the HD is an SSD. Single best "bang for your buck" performance upgrade you can buy. Also significantly extends battery life.

It depends on your budget but the $2000-3000 are usually the best. After $5000 the laptops are more for gaming or some construction jobs.
It depends on your budget and what you are trying to do.
If you don't know what you are going to do it's best to get the fastest computer which allows you to create the most and is easy to use.
Keep in mind if you are able to get work done a lot faster than other people you are putting yourself at an advantage.

I bought a refurbished Dell XPS 13 a few weeks back. Absolute monster.
16gb RAM
512gb SSD
4k HD Touch screen
13" Laptop
There was an issue with the GPU though, so sent it back and they didn't have a replacement so had to choose a new one.
Decided to go with Huawei Matebook Pro
Similar spec but 8GB ram instead of 16. Which is fine as i can use my PC for video editing.
So far so good with the Huawei. Imressed.

I've tried so hard to switch to PC. I've had every laptop you can imagine. Dell XPS 15, Alienware R17, Think Pad Carbon X1 or whatever... couldn't do it. Had to go back to Apple. Just picked up a 2019 Macbook Pro 15 inch. It cost like $3k.... and I know you don't get a bang for your buck as far as hardware goes... but damn I love mac lol.

I just got an Alienware 15m for about $1500. I had to add a solid-state drive afterward for another $60ish. It does everything I ask and for anything that needs server power, I just use a remote desktop to my office server. The Dell XPS laptops usually have better working features for less, I just wanted something that could run my VR setup.

Pretty clean as far as I can tell.
I only got it as the replacement yesterday so haven't had a full play around.
Windows 10.
I have to say I thought replacing a Dell XPS 13 with this was going to be disappointing.
But so far, I am actually enjoying it a little bit more.
Very light. Very quite.
