Laptop is heating up

Hi, is it normal for a laptop to heat up? I am feeling the heat on the left and ride side of the mouse track pad. I can't even type by keeping my hand there because it's heating too much.

Config is:
i7 3770
8 gb ram
4 gb 750m nvidia
256 gb ssd. I replaced the 1 tb normal with the 256 gb ssd.
15.6" screen.

It's lenovo laptop. I bought it second hand. With me, the lappy is around 2 years old and I guess with the owner it must have had this for another 2 years. I dont remember the time he told me when I bought this.

Lappy is on about 17-18 hrs per day and the rest of the hours I just close the lid as I am sleeping that time.

Any solution to fix the heat?

I am not a techie guy. Would I not have to open the backside in order to clean? I fear to mess everything up lol.
 
Go to an IT repair shop and ask them to clean it inside/outside from dust etc replace the thermal paste (if they even can lol I hate laptops) and when you use it try to not block the air way methods.

There are tutorials for plenty of models on Youtube, just check the exact model of your lappy. You can't really fuck it up, usually if you remove the back, the fan becomes visible and you can clean it easily.
 
I am not an IT guy either, it's pretty easy to open the back.

Unscrew the screws, pull the back plate off and clean out all the dust and crap you can see without being too invasive, there will be a lot in the vents / fans...
Buy some compressed air to do a proper job

If you are worried watch a youtube video of someone opening your laptop beforehand :)
 
Go to the local convenience store and buy 2 bags of ice... should run you about $1.79 per bag.

Put one under the laptop and one on top of the lap top.

That is easier than all the common sense answers these others are giving you.

Thanks for the confidence. I lack confidence in almost everything haha. I will look at some tutorials now. :)

Alright. That's a good solution too. :)
 
If you're gonna do 24/7 workhorsing on your laptop I'll advise against that right away and recommend you get a dedicated machine, like I did. They're fairly cheap ($200-500) and you can run them 24/7 because they're pretty much built for it

It can only heat up because of dust inside.
You should clean it up and then provide coolers.
 
Yep laptops get hot especially if there is a build up of dust. Get a laptop stand/cooler
