heating issue

Hi, is it normal for a laptop to heat up? I am feeling the heat on the left and ride side of the mouse track pad. I can't even type by keeping my hand there because it's heating too much. Config is: i7 3770 8 gb ram 4 gb 750m nvidia 256 gb ssd. I replaced the 1 tb normal with the 256 gb ssd...
