Hey guys,

I've been working on my site and have been doing a lot of creative things to try to get some search engine traffic (mostly whitehat). One thing I did that has worked extremely well and has gotten me some traffic is creating pages that bash my competitor's products.

These pages have no backlinks and the PR of my main page is pitiful, but they're getting on the top for their keywords and I'm getting 200 uniques a month on each page (I'm creating more as I'm typing here).

However, the traffic isn't churning out into sales. My thinking is that my landing pages aren't optimized... but how do I optimize a negative campaign. For example, my title is "*whatever* doesn't work" which is also the main keyword.

I've seen stuff on landing page optimization but what about this case? How do I convert somebody who types in *competitor's product* doesn't work?

Any suggestions? Anybody try this technique and convert people into customers on it? Or am I missing something blatantly obvious?

Maybe you should say "XXX Does work" and start giving them information about your product and why it's better than your competitor.

Another way is to use "XXXX comparison" or "XXX review" and simply compare your product against theirs. Show them the weakness of the competitors and the strength of your product.

A BETTER way would be to get another website for your review pages and then refer them to your real site. This way you have more credibility. At this time you probably lack credibility, therefore low conversion sales, because your visitors expect you to bash the competition.

Use your real site for providing more info on how your product can be used.

Finally, how about some article reviews comparing your product to theirs? They'll read these on other sites and still come to your site with a higher conversion rate because it was a third party who provided the info.

Hope this gives you some ideas...

Well I wrote like 2 paragraphs on how much the other product sucks and then I have a table with the comparison between the 2 products and then the link to the purchase page. Should I write a long, detailed sales letter describing each ingredient that doesn't work? Sorta like the long landing pages for click bank products? When should I introduce my own product? At the very end?

Interesting subject I think.

It's a very interesting traffic tactic...I'm thinking it could be possible that many of your visitors are simply looking for a reason NOT to buy. I always try to get inside of the mind of someone doing a search...and someone searching for "product x doesn't work"..is many times looking for a reason to talk themselves out of making a purchase.

But with that being said, you'd think that some would consider your product as an alternative. If I were you, I'd setup a few "independent" review sites that praise your product...that way if they do the same research on your product that they did on product x, they will see good reviews...which could reinforce their buying decision.

And make your title tags "your product doesn't work"....and/or "your product name review"....then just spin the "doesnt work" part into a positive review....kinda like all of the presell pages you see with headlines like "is so and so a scam?"

hope that makes sense.

Yes this is what I've done on a couple of pages, usually works quite well.

May give this a bash with a few subdomains.... now to find a niche.... why do they make niche finding so hard.... :(

Why do you think it's so hard to find a niche?

There are people making thousands of bucks a year from selling ebooks about WORM FARMING. Now, if people are making money in ridiculous niches like worm farming, how to give yourself dreadlocks, and how to make money online... you won't have a problem finding a niche.

Well the reason I'm on top for the keyword on Google and the reason I get uniques is because my title tag is the keyword... which is "'product' doesn't work". If i change that, most surely google will boot me down from the first page... The review site is good but I wanna make it an honest review site while bashing a ton of products as well as promoting my own, that's where the trick is.

One of the basic premises in sales is that you don't outright bash your competition. You can compare your site to their site in a side by side. Each row is feature and each column is a product. Compare yours to theirs. Don't bash.

Example:
If I go to your office because I want to sell your company 500 widgets and I see a demo widget from another company...how would you react to my sales pitch if I just continually pointed out the flaws in their widget without building the value of mine?
