Keyword research (tool)

Hello guys, I hope you could help me how to do keyword research.
First of all, I know how keyword research works, read a lot about it on BHW but at the moment I don't know how to start. The google keyword tool doesn't show the exact numbers anymore and shows ranges. Is there any tool which helps people for free finding keywords, the monthly searches, cpc, etc. ?
There are many paid tools, which start from 30$ a month, but that's really a lot for a beginner like me. How could I do free keyword research ? Any tips?

My Google keyword tool is showing exact numbers. And on the other hand, most of the tools use Google keyword tool so that wouldn't do you much. If you're looking for something else, you can try this: http://www.keysearch.co/

It says 20 daily research searches, is that enough?

Are there any free alternatives someone can suggest ? There are tools which show keywords, but not the related numbers like monthly searches etc. that's the problem

I think a small investment to pay someone to do a lil' keyword research would go a long way. Otherwise, it also depends on your niche. Find something that doesn't have much exposure on the internet yet or something no one posted this year. Just my two cents.

There are some terrific sellers here on BHW that do keyword research and their reports are extremely comprehensive and they do it for dirt cheap. Check out the market section here.
