Keyword Research the BTB Way

I am sorry that I might've overlooked the answer to this on your thread:

First of all, thanks for this valuable information, but I dont understand why you didnt mention checking the 'exact search' box on the left. Otherwise, wouldnt all the stats you get for your 'monthly local search' inaccurate somehow, since they are meant for broad search?

Please advise. Thx

There might be but the KW research end, if automated, leaves out aspects of the human element and that is what makes this different, and in my opinion, more realistic and effective.

BTB,

when you go to Wikipedia, are you searching for related kw for your conversational keywords too (which you generated at the beginning) aside from your main/seed keyword?

im quite confused on where we will use those conversational keywords to dig deep..
or we will use them just on GKWT?

I am; I want a bunch of related KWs that would not always show up in the keywords adword tool.

You add them in to the KW adwords tool along with the other KWs you have.

as I dig on wikipedia, Im getting several topics that i haven't thought related during the initial keyword brainstorming, group them into categories and sub categories without stepping away from the niche, making the site fatter...
simple trick but i see it'll be very effective! :)

1. So each created article goes into its respective category, the one with the matching keyword. For the second category, do you place it into something with a keyword that is related or more broad? Both?

2. How do visitors navigate from one post to another? Do you use a categories sidebar? A related posts widget?

3. Do you group your categories into sub-categories? I've tried this with a list of 600 kw's and it was an absolute nightmare (I coded some excel macros to help and it still took 2 days...). The thing is, once you've compiled your list using adwords kw tool and then sorted it by traffic and competition, it's all a jumble. Is there some other method to this or is this basically a waste of time?

I put the articles in several categories so they show up in a bunch of places when people are looking.

The categories are on the sidebar and I also have a search button on the top and use the plug in SEO Smart Links so related KWS are interlinked between articles.

Sounds like a lot of work to me... no there are no subcategories.

The thing is that my inner pages rank very well so if you were to search for a KW of mine the inner page will show up on page 1 of Google as well as the category as I backlink my categories now in addition to the inner pages.

However, at 130 categories the sidebar is already twice the length of a standard article. Do you actually have 1000 categories in the sidebar?
 
Thanks for sharing that technique. Definitely some forethought there. I can appreciate steering clear of the main stream tools and going with you own process. Appreciate it.

The cpc is low but the volume is out of this world. the lowest root keyword search is over 800k with 4 of the root keywords being over 8 million and 1 over 20 million. The kicker is that this niche is global and those are local US numbers.

Saving this for later though. I have to finish the others or at least generate more income from them first.

I do and I always put the categories below all my ads; I don't care if anyone scrolls down to them, I just want them to respond to my ads.

Those are broad numbers just like Greg does it. Have not had time to set it up yet but that one is next on the list.

One thing that helps is an old plugin that still works and that is AZIndex and this will automatically create the page that BTB is talking about with the links to all the articles. Very cool and very easy to set up.
