Keyword Research the BTB Way

"On the local keyword front, go with your gut. How would you search for that business. I find that most of the time there is nothing in adwords but that does not mean the phrase is not searched 100k times per month, it only means that no one is buying ads for that term.
National or state level terms/searches can give you and idea of what people are looking for."

Excellent point.
For instance i was looking up a keyword and it said low competition but when i put the phrase in "keyword" it showed over 2 million results! how is that low competition.
Google adwords tool is ok, but can be deceptive, what other keyword tools software would you recommend?

I have one site that ranks #5 in Google with a competition of 38 million when you google it.

I don't use any other methods than the one I explain in the original post personally.

BTB, I noticed that 99.9% of the sites I scrape from various platforms are no follow. I don't believe in the "no follow links do carry weight BS" because it seems like a damn efficient way for Google to filter out spam links like these. What do you do to solve this problem?

Do you have your own "custom footprints" targeting high quality, specific, do follow blogs or do you do what the rest of us do, harvest a huge list and then just blast it to get what you can? No, I'm not gonna ask you your footprints :] Pretty confused with what to do with SB now.

I'm far from a SB master, Loopline, Paper-Boy and Andreyg13 are the geniuses there in my opinion.

Damn you Greg with all your great services!.

Now reading this I wish I had reduced my LP package to be able to get this too.

Anyway for those considering this (and you should!) I have experienced this service in a way, by being the 3000th poster in his LP thread.

Greg supplied articles and found an EMD with low competition and a huge search volume. I now just have to bug him to add the 10 free LP into my account now lol.

When I have the funds I will certainly purchase this on a monthly basis.

I have a couple of sites now that from day 1 I have not worried about do follow or no follow and they have several front page keywords. Personally I quit worrying about it and moved on. I have also quit worrying about links being indexed once I realized that they do not show them all to you anyhow. Just get them crawled and you are fine. I have a site that is a couple months old and has been neglected for over a month and I just added about 20 articles to the site and to my surprise the article was indexed with no backlinking within 6 hours.

You have to pick your battles indexing, and follow are ones that you are not going to win.

You know, that is something that I do not actually worry about. I do it just like BTB described. I currently have 4 sites that are in progress and are gonna be huge. Then I just did the research for a new niche that is competitive and has a low adsense payout but with just the highest 5 keywords combined totaling over 100 million. I have over 1k keywords for this site. What it makes up for in low payout is in the volume.

Most people seem to be reaching for the dollar that is hanging from the tree, I am glad to pickup the quarters that fall out of your pockets. Those that reach for the dollar may get rich faster but they are also fighting more people to get to that dollar. Believe me, there are a lot of quarters falling.

So you go for many keywords that have low competition and low search numbers and optimize your pages for them?

Not necessarily low search numbers. Just like Greg said in the original post, weed out the ones below 800 local. I would not call keywords that average 20 million local searches a month low volume.

What I had said was that it was low paying but makes up for it in sheer volume of searches. And then yes I write an article for each one.

A good tool to also use is the sorter. Many people do not take advantage of it, because it has some cool features in Google Keyword Tool.

You can set limits for exact match searches, set a minimum or maximum cpc, and then you can find the ideal keyword.

great post. How close to the original kw theme do you stay? when you type a kw into wiki it is very easy to end up on a completely different topic so how do you restrict yourself from straying to far of the original kw theme?

I try not to get too far off the beaten path on that but if you take any subject, there is a ton of related KWs that tie in easily.

Take broad subject like cancer.

You could build on types of cancer, cures for cancer, myths about cancer, doctors who specialize in cancer, equipment that is used in treating cancer, causes of cancer, natural cures for cancer, cancer treatments in various countries...

Some of it is common sense because you are correct 2 pages away from your main topic and you're onto a totally different subject and that is actually a good thing when that happens with me.

I take that subject and hold onto it to see if that would be another good project.

I've been doing Adsense lately, but I'd like to try out Amazon too after seeing you mentioning it in your OP. How do I become one and how does it work exactly? Thanks BTB ;) Rep given

The thing with Amazon is you want to offer products that are almost an impulse buy as the cookie is only a 24 hour cookie but you can make decent money doing that.

Build a site about widgets that are between 25.00 and 125.00 or so that people would buy right off without thinking too much about it.

Page 1 would be a generic article about widgets.
Page 2 would be a review in a positive way Blue widgets.
Page 3 would be a review in a positive way Red widgets.
Page 4 would be a review in a positive way Green widgets.

And so on... Backlink each page individually with your KWS.

You can sign up to become an affiliate with Amazon here:

silly question but pages or posts?..any difference as far as seo is concerned?

I have very few pages on my sites so it is almost always posts but I do have one master page with each KW on it.. just the KW with a link to the article that is promoting that KW.
