KDP Free Promo Killed my Book??

Hey guys! So I published my first book on Amazon two weeks ago and it was doing pretty well, actually! I immediately did 4 days of the free promo to get some downloads and reviews, and then from there sold about 2 copies a day at $2.99 for almost a week straight. This past Friday I decided to use the final day of my free promo just to see what happens, and it pushed about 200 downloads!

Saturday came... and nothin. Sunday came and went, and now Monday with no downloads! My book was in the top 5 paid wedding before the promo, and now it's not on the charts! I also went from about a 60,000 rank to 300,000. Do you guys have any tips? Should I have not done that random free day? Or maybe I should have done it on a different day. I'd love to hear your advice. Thank you so much.

You should get 5-10 reviews before running a free promo. Never do this right after you publish your book.

Thank you for the advice, that makes perfect sense about waiting. I just used the free promo to get the reviews so friends/family I sent it to wouldn't have to buy the book.

If your book is doing well, the last thing to do is touch it. You were probably feautered on a popular page "costumers who bought this book also bought" and when you launced the final promo day you reset the algo and dissapeared from that page. This also happens when you change description of the book etc. Point is, when a book is doing well, leave it alone!

Awesome thank you so much for the advice. So does everything reset if I change the price as well? I lowered it to 99 cents from $2.99 to get more downloads so I could raise my ranking. So if my ranking went back up and I raised the price again would I be in trouble all over again?

The same applies when you change the price yes. Your book will be "republished" and loose any placements on other pages within amazon kindle store.

I always do free promo in 2 ways.
3-2 or 2-2-1 for my books.
This helps me in getting more download first and after that some reviews come automatically and through FB groups.
