TLDR: Its an experiment. Price checker site. Mostly homebrew tools. White hat. No monetization plan (yet).
Okay, first off, I am a big fan IM journeys, been following some closely. Wanted to start my own as well. Also manage a way to keep my approach structured.
1. Idea
This is will be a local price checker site. Plan to get majority of the traffic from search. So SEO will be my main focus, for first couple of months alteast.
100k is my estimate after going through semrush/adwords numbers for a set of keywords. Alexa ranks of competitors show more potential.
I will be somewhat following the silo structure guide by splishsplash (link below). Made a scrapy project to fetch price lists from local ecommerce sites. All patched together on a standard wp site.
Content-wise I will put up a short paragraph as an intro followed by handpicked videos from YT, specification and price tables. Thats pretty much it.
2. Niche / Competition research
Only checked up the DAs of 3 major competitors. Avg 30.
I have pulled majestic data for one competitor. Mostly comments, couple of local web 2.0 and only a handful number of editorial mentions. I will digg into the rest of the competition later this week. For now it seems a couple of targeted comments and web 2.0 to key pages will get the job done. More on it later.
On-page wise, i would say comp has it 60% optimized. So theres scope for improvement. For me, I will try to keep my basics right (title, description, url, pagespeed, amp).
3. Action plan
I am expecting some of the pages will show up on the first page. This should be enough to give me actual search figures - validate the number part.
4. Pivot?
Like I said I dont have any immediate monetization plan yet. Affiliate scene is not matured here.
Just want to see how the seo part plays out from scratch. I have plans to bring the traffic to a facebook page, just a sketch idea right now.

- Week 1 - initial setup and validate idea (currently setting up)
- Finalize product list. I am picking gadget items that are trending in last 14 days and 90 days period. Starting with about 45 items.
- Setup website. Custom theme. Nothing fancy. Just have the tables setup.
- Setup Search console.
- Week 2 - build momentum and backlink plan
- Add more products. Take it 100.
- Competition backlinks. I want to find out if they are doing guest posts. Assuming they are not using any hidden PBNs, for now.
- Build list of target articles/blogs for commenting
- Week 3-4 - ++ Update price data fortnightly. Start commenting (1/2 day)
