Good to see you back @Shaunm.

Cheers pal :) Still no real plans to update the journey thread daily as the domains from this journey are still just sitting and aging in but hoping to pick it back up again around the back end up next month if any of them manage to get front page/top three.

Hi shaun. i want to ask about your content for T1 - Manual Web 2.0 and T2 - Automated Web 2.0. did you use spinner such as word AI or other app such as KM, GSA content generator?

How would you rate GSA CG compared to the alternatives? Sorry if you've already shed some light on this, didn't read through all of your journey yet.

I beta tested it and used the free trial to bank a load of generated content but I haven't bought a license yet. I own Kontent Machine and GSA CG is better in my opinion as it is already, not to take into consideration Sven updates his tools all the time. I made suggestions to the Kontent Machine team years back that they still havent implimented, in suggested them to Sven a few month back and they are all in the tool already.

Not planning on returning to daily journaling yet but thought I would post a little update.

  • I have decided to set aside six domains created since the start of this journey to focus on the remaining three. I don't believe that they have a long term penalty against them but it definitely seems that Googles real time algo has some kind of uptime monitor built into it for links. If a page linking to you goes on and offline a whole bunch as most of the links generated via traditional GSA SER use do then it seems to stop any link juice being passed from that domain. I will leave these six domains to age and see what happens, I may use them in the future but for now they are side lined. The three domains I will continue to focus on have most of their keywords on page three now with some dancing upto page two with an over all steady climb since creation so I am hoping some of them will be top three in two months or so.
  • The parasite page I blasted back in Feb before starting the journey thread has finally started to climb in ranks. It took almost six month and over 1,000,000 links leading me to belive everything has slowed down even more than last year.
  • I have stopped all efforts to recover the domain that was affected by Fred. I ordered new content targeting the same keywords and put it on a new domain and its pages are already on page two for the keywords so I am focusing on that.
  • I have ended the YouTube art project as without MassPlanner to promote it I see no real reason to keep it going.
  • I have been doing link retention/alive/indexing checks on SER, SERE and RX to see what option will be better for my new strategy. SERs link retention is around 40-50% depending on platforms with an index rate of around 60% and the alive status of the links seems to change too much to get any actionable data so I am looking to drop all SER contextuals from future projects. SERE/RX have almost identical stats with around 85% link retention, 80% indexing and over 90% success on alive checks. I prefer SERE as its much easier to set up continuous campaigns rather than having to constantly rebuild projects every day in RX so I am looking at SERE for my automated contextuals now.
  • With so many changes to my old method being implemented, I have decided that my old strategy of choosing a bunch of low comp keywords, target one per page and blast automated links at them all is now inefficient due to captcha costs. I have changed my money site strategy to have a site with around 50,000 words of informational content (number is totally chosen at random, nothing to back up this is a good number) and one to five money pages I intend to rank.
  • I have reread a few of Robert Greene's books along with reading a few new books by a number of writers.
  • I set up a fill bridge network to automate posting to with SER but screwed up and accidentally blasted it so I have rebuilt a new one with 25 domains that I will post everything to manually and then outsource the posting in the future if it works. I really think this is the way forward with tiered link building now. The network I accidentally blasted correlates to a 7% increase in traffic to the money site domain targeted.
  • Still got a touch of depression so I have no real plans to return to blogging regularly on my personal blog and find it hard to stay motivated so I have been playing a load of Hearthstone to pass the days while domains age in to see what happens.

If you do pick up SC:Remastered we can do a few matches :)

Good to have you back :)

Indeed, it's awesome to have you back updating your progress.

So, I don't quite get that. Would you mind explaining a little bit more what's that "way forward with tiered link building"?

that's the hardest part.

Cheers mate :).

Haha no chance! I lost far too much of my life to Starcraft and Command and Conquer back in the day but I was so tempted to get the remastered version, so far I have managed to resist! :p.

Everything I have seen from my test sites suggests you have to have a stable set of domains on your tier one that have good uptime due to Googles algo being real time now. A bridge network is similar to a PBN in the sense you own the domain but its made up of totally fresh domains that are cheap and can be instantly set up.

You then use these as your tier one, web 2.0s are working on some of my sites pretty well but there are a number of pages that get deleted and sites like docstoc who close their doors and all those links are gone instantly. For this reason, I am using manual web 2.0s on my T1 to help dilute anchor text profiles and referring domains but won't really be building tiers to them. On T2 I plan to use manual web 2.0s to the bridge network and then automated web 2.0s on T3 to the manual web 2.0s.

I haven't actually put the full thing into practice yet as it's pulling data from a bunch of things but I am planning to look for keywords today to put on one of my domains and do a run through of the full process. Not expecting much from the test for six months or so though in all honesty, the best part about the tier one bridge networks is that they get stronger as they age in and you can link out to almost unlimited money pages depending on how you host them.

that's the hardest part.

Defo!

So I decided to start daily updates again as I'm essentially on phase two on the journey and I plan to be pretty active over the coming days/weeks. On the offchance anyone is interested, here is the financials for my business that I created on the 2nd July 17. I don't have the exact figures but I would imagine that only around $500 is from the domains I have made during this journey. The rest comes from my personal blog, online freelancing and one or two legacy domains I have that are still bringing in cash after Penguin/Fred but the main one of them is on a downward trend in traffic even though its SERPs are holding so that will dry up soon.

  • Analysed the keywords I used in the initial test domains from the journey to look for patterns in the ones that are doing better than the rest to try and improve future keyword research. So far it seems random outside of stuff I have already narrowed down. I will put more time and effort into it in the future.
  • Went over the three money site domains I intend to focus on to make them look better and added in adsense code for the non-amazon based pages.
  • Decided to research vlogging, it has been part of my end game plan for a long while now but after watching Steve Bartletts vlog (24 Year Old CEO of one of the biggest white hat SMM agencies in the UK), one of the main things I see is people not seeing the struggle he went through to get the initial business off the ground. As thats what I am currently doing I think starting a vlog could offer an insight into this side of things. The mic on my iPhone is broken so I will probably have to get a new camera for it.
  • Posted out some filler content to the bridge network.
  • Ordered $300 worth of linking content for the bridge network that will link to various pages in various ways.
  • Read my kindle.
  • Set up some new Alfreds to make posting filler content to the bridge networks easier in the future.
  • Started planning out some future blog posts for my personal blog but i’m not sure when I will release them, its a right struggle to get the motivation to type stuff up now when I can use that time on my networks.
  • Did some keyword research for the test I mentioned yesterday to use the bridge network with three tiers behind it, managed to find 12 keywords that seem good with search volume ranging 590-2400 searched a month and product price going from $50-$500.
  • Stop start jogging for an hour at the gym.

"I have changed my money site strategy to have a site with around 50,000 words of informational content (number is totally chosen at random, nothing to back up this is a good number) and one to five money pages I intend to rank." I am working on a project very similar to this, more info content than money pages on site. I'll keep you posted on progress.

Bridge network sounds interesting. How are you hosting this?

Currently just using cloudflare to mask the servers to keep costs down for the initial 25 domains I have right now, I plan to scale it up to around 50 for a test network and if it works then I will make it my main method and just keep scaling it with a service like easy blog networks so each domain has its own IP and such.

I will be following this thread. Good luck with your journey.

Cheers man :).

Nice to have you back @Shaunm - Can't wait for the next update. However i do have a question as an SEO noob.

  • domains age in to see what happens.

What you mean by that? Is it likely that the older an domain is the more keywords it ranks for? Thanks for an explanation!
Good luck on fighting your depression but with that attitude, im sure you'll get through it!

It's more from my observations, I am a firm believer in the sandbox and am observing various pages starting to leave it now on the domains I made during this journey. I'm pretty sure you can cut down this sandbox time by pushing links to pages from authority domains like media sites and stuff but thats a no go for the way I build links.

Although the initial bridge network test I ran and automated seemed to increase traffic by around 7% I think the juice provided from bridge network links will only increase as the domains age as well as the pages with the links on them.

I posted the below screenshot in a thread the other day, its a parasite page that I blasted and it has taken almost six months for the page to have any real SERP movement making me beleive everything has slowed down even further since Penguin 4 and Fred. This is one of the main reasons I have decided to try and make long term money sites and long term tier one sites in an attempt to prevent haveing to wait six months to see how it goes everything a rollout happens.

Thanks for posting a journey that deals with the REALITY of IM, the highs and lows.

99% of journey threads are either thinly veiled sales threads or people that give up and
abandon the journey when things to tits up.

You always give a interesting adventure.

Cheers :).

Couldn't agree more mate, this is one of the reasons i'm looking to start a vlog version of the journey too, it's unreal how many people on here and the GSA forum believe the sales threads and get angry when they aren't millionaires after 30 days. Even when unmotivated with mild depression Rescue Time shows I was still putting in 3-4 hours of IM based stuff per day.
