Okay so I've read a lot of journey threads back in the day and I wanted to contribute my own. I've decided to give Amazon KDP a really solid shot to make some extra cash. I know this is a bit of work so I will be outsourcing the writing and uploading portion. Today I am starting with research.

*** I AM NOT DOING EROTICA***

Lets take a look at the top 100 paid. What do we see on the first page? A ton of Romance and Suspense, with a bit of Young Adult sprinkled in. Common thread? Romance and some sort of dramatic/suspenseful/emotional twist.

I'm going to move forward with Romantic Suspense. While I won't do Erotica, I will be uploading my books in series of shorter stories. I wrote the plots for 5 series which will be 4 books each in length which totals 20 books. I've posted on freelancing sites looking for experienced writers.

Good luck! just keep in mind few things, since you will outsource:

1- Hire only those who are native English speakers.
2- Even if they are very good writer, proofreading is a must.
3- The cover must be eye catching and tell what this story about.
4- Don't rush for success, you mostly won't make good sales from the first 2-3 books.

Once again, good luck and i'll follow your journey ;)

Thank you for the pointers! I am definitely going to focus on having a polished product including the cover. I want readers to read whatever I have in my eventual catalogue. I agree there is no sense in creating garbage products that will result in returns and loss of potential life long readers. Thanks again!

How about instead of doing your journey, come join me. I'm looking for someone to take over running my operation on kindle... PM me.

I'm looking to hire only native English speaking writers. I'm speaking with a few now. Looking at $50 for 8k words.

Wow, that sounds about right-ish. I hire writers who give me about 2500 words for $15.

DAY 2

Hired a native english writer at $40 per 8,000 words since I was doing 4 books. Also, I did a lot of research on how these authors are setting up there social presences and blogs/websites. I've picked a pen name and purchased the domain and created my social profiles. This way they will be somewhat aged by the time I launch my first set of books.

Tomorrow, and maybe even later today I will be speaking with the graphic designer I work with to work up some covers for me. I understand how important covers are so I want to make sure these are books that look bookshelf ready and inspire trust that the product will be of high quality.

Remember, I'm looking at this as a side income stream as I already have other projects taking up the majority of my time. Stay tuned!
