joomla or wordpress?

what i found , in most cases joomla had an advantage over wordpress in the google ranking

I have used both in various projects. I found with Joomla, there was always a number of components and mods out there to help along, but they were never quite right. If you wanted anything that actually worked, most of the time, you had to get a purchased version.

Then when it came down to customization. Yikes. I retained a programmer for over a year making updates and changes to one particular site. He had to mangle that code in so many ways, I now have no way to really migrate to updates without breaking everything.

The coding of joomla is WAY WAY more complex than wordpress.

I disagree that wordpress is just a blogging platform. All it takes is a plugin or two and it's just as CMS enabled as joomla can be.

Joomla over complicates things that could be made simplier. Wordpress on the other hand has gone to great lengths to make an admin interface that is one of the most intelligent in the industry. While joomla always (and I mean always) leaves clients with deep in headlights syndrome the moment they login.

Many of the major joomla components are slow to update. Development of new features are slow, and joomla itself is slow to update. Wordpress on the other hand as you can see is constantly making strides in improvements.

As for security, I have had more Joomla sites broken into/hacked than Wordpress.

After all my experiences, when it comes to new projects, I don't even debate anymore. I go with Wordpress right away. I know I will save a ton of time over Joomla or any other CMS in setup time, frustrations, and overall costs.

Good luck with your decision.

Wordpress is great for quick niche websites, Joomla is more suited for large scale websites.

Have just moved a horrible static site over to WP and it's great.

I did research it as I was thinking about Joomla as well.

All I can say is that Wordpress was my choice and is fantastic!

If your website will be more than 1k pages, Joomla better, otherwise WP better. You have to spend a lot of time learning how to make a good configuration or you will find the "read more" don't work or the font is not what you want.

I think there are great arguments for both however I use wp because it is simple, easy to customize and has tons of free plugins and themes that make setup a breeze I can deploy a fully optimized wp site in as little as 30 minutes.

After reading this thread though I think I will take a little time to get to know joomla better. Good Thread thanks

I like WP overall it's much easier to use. I found that the learning curve of Joomla to be a bit of a challenge, but with WP I can get a site up in no time at all. Plus is you need assistance with an issue, you can find someone to help with WP much easier.

Wordpress for sure. Joomla has a steep learning curve and you can't customize your site more than an extent.

Joomla is ABSOLUTELY best to create bigger -better sites.
Its an awesome CMS.
However if you are looking for nice looking SIMPLE sites with easy SEO,
you cant beat WP.
but joomla is still the better of the 2 over all.

+1 for WP

With v3.0+ Wordpress is going to be increasingly more of a CMS not just a blog platform. More options with WP = less reasons to choose Drupal or Joomla.

I have used both and i am finding it very hard to go back to joomla even though i have lots of premium joomla modules rotting away on my laptop.

I prefer Joomla. Once you learn the setup and how to make templates it is great. I just finished a blog which I am looking at turning into a community and looking to get guest writers along the way. That is why I went with joomla. I can make anyone an author and they can write articles and all I have to do is approve them. If you want to take a look pm me. I need to work on my graphic design for the header and work out a few small bugs. Graphic design is my weakness.

niffybranco, what do you have? If you are not going to use them send me a PM maybe we can work something out.
