joomla or wordpress?

I actually started out using joomla... then tried drupal... went back to joomla. Then tried wordpress, then drupal 6 came out... tried it... never left.
Since then I've tried wordpress a couple of times, it always makes me mad. I just cant DO what I want to do. Not only that but drupal has install profiles. I create a blank site with all the settings/modules I want, then anytime I install a site, its all setup and ready to go.
Not only that, but I have a way to do very newbie friendly landing pages (multicolumn, multirow, videos, images, metatags, etc etc) w/ no coding at all... wordpress is trying its hardest to catch up w/ the 3.0 release, but its still behind.

Never tried Joomla, never felt the need to. Wordpress can be a blogging platform, a CMS, a social networking platform and so much more. A quick look at the WP showcase will give a good idea. Wanted to post the showcase link, but my post getting rejected. I can PM you if you like, or just go the wordpress.org site and you should see it.
Plus it comes with a multi-user platform WPMU (earlier installed separately, now integrated in the WP core since WP 3.0). Works wonderfully in conjunction with Buddypress for creating a powerful social n/w platform. Check out mu.wordpress.org and buddypress.org for more info
WP is just easy to use, works right out of the box, theming is easy (thousands of great free themes avl), provides hundreds of free plugins for almost anything you can think of. And yes! Definitely very SEO friendly. Within hours of putting my WP site I had it showing up on Google.

I have tried both and agree that Wordpress is best. With available plugins it can do anything Joomla can and even though I have a programming background the ease of Wordpress allows me to focus on more important tasks such as content and link building. Joomla took too much time for me.

I've tried both on work and it really depends on your site.
Wordpress is more of a blogging platform although you can transform it to a full blown CMS like Joomla. It's easy to customize, theme and install. Also a lot of people are already familiar with it making it the most popular choice.
Joomla on the other hand is more of a CMS rather than a blog. You can transform it to a blog though. If you have a lot of writers working at the same time, I'd prefer Joomla over wordpress. A weird thing about it though is that your pages depend on your menus so you have to always keep that in mind. Honestly though, if you have the technical skills and time I'd really suggest Drupal over Joomla. IMHO it's better.
As a last note, why not try them both out first and see if it fits your needs?

WP without any doubt. I developed stuff on joomla and also drupal extensively but the easy of use of WP is just unparalleled. Still have to try WP 3.0 but I read around they made major improvements to turn WP into a full-fledged CMS solution.
So my vote goes to WP hands down.

I used Joomla before I had even seen wordpress. Now I only use wordpress and I come from a programming background.
We run tube sites, social networking, blogs, linkdir sites and even a forum. We write our own plugins but mainly use the free ones. We heavily modify free themes and plugins also.
The guy who said he likes how you can setup templates in joomla and with one button push you got a site. Same thing can happen in wordpress with the use of the cp command and the ln command.
I understand that joomla is powerful but with vary little tweaking wordpress can do at least 90% of what joomla does if not more and even in tweaked mode still ALOT easier to use than joomla.
By the way this all happens on WP 2.9 so I haven't even had a chance to look at WP 3
