I know that many people use Twitter for ads and PR, but is it really a good platform for promoting own products and services, especially for small start-ups? Any ideas? Does anyone have some experience with it?

It fully depends on your niche and promoting type.
If you really want to get much product sale then
deal with FB or IG Advertising :)

No one will follow you until you promote your product first
if you product has just launched.

It's mainly based on your business. If you like to target top-tier business people then LinkedIn and Twitter is the best place but LinkedIn is expensive. For any platform you choose for marketing Try short campaigns with minimum budget. Don't pour all your money into it without knowing its performance If your ad is not good then you lose all your money. First, Start ad campaigns on any three social media platforms with a low budget. use same ad banner for all and run it for 5 days using that data you can choose yours. Second, after choosing the platform, design at least two ad banners and try to split test it. Find out which is getting high clicks. After that design good landing page and modify that page if your conversions dropping out at that page till you get at least 10% conversions from those visitors.

Yes. Twitter still allows you to get good organic reach. It is more open, allows anyone to contact anyone else that isn't blocked. It's probably the last marketer-friendly social network.

Agree with this.

Also there are lots of active influencers on twitter and its (relatively) easy to get them to promote your tweets (by retweeting for example) so its a great way to reach a lot of people in your niche.

Whether many people are buyers on twitter I think does depend on your niche, because its a lot more business oriented rather than being full of end-users and such (In my experience), but still its definitely good for getting your message in front of people.

Every platform is good for marketing if there are active users which twitter kinda have. Personally I would avoid twitter if you are only planning to focus on one social network for promotion.

As you are beginner, I would suggest go with the Facebook first. It is the best social marketing platform. You can have number of people online at a time on Facebook. It is the most popular and actual traffic boosting medium. If you have that much contacts on Twitter then go with it, it is used by the professionals for the marketing but on basic level Facebook, Instagram are the best.

It can be quite good but first you need to have some followers so I recommend you FB and/or Instagram first

My answer is yes. Twitter is good for your business. It's users might be lower than facebook but it is helpful for your brand. Since tweets are indexed by Google, then it can be a great marketing tool. With twitter, you can interact and connect with users from around the globe and increase your sales as well.
