Is this strategy White Hat or Black Hat?

Recently, I was approached by a guy who goes by the alias murtazapro021 and many others. He claimed to have a sure shot strategy to rank a page of your blog up high in google search. As high as rank 1 or 2. Here's how:

1. Choose a keyword. Research a high CPC keyword.
2. Search it on google. Note the top 5 to 10 search results.
3. Find out the average word count on those top 5 to 10 search results.
4. Copy all the text from top 5 search result and paste it in word file.
5. Structure your article with that exact text. Make sure your article is longer than average word count of top 5 search result websites.
6. Second Most important part. Now edit your article. Use synonyms of at least 25% of the words. Also, make sure all the Yoast SEO checks are ticked.
7. Post your article. Let google learn about it for few days.
8. It should already be at a decent position because you are using text of top 5 search result and your article contains more information than the top 5 result.
8. Most important part. This requires efforts and a VPN. Use a decent VPN. Use a fresh browser with al history and cookies deleted.
9. With VPN connected, search for your keyword in google. Scroll down until you see result from your website. Open it. Spend some time on the page. Read your article. Take action on page. Spend some genuine time.
10. Repeat step 9 with another VPN and IP. Do this every day with at least 25 different IPs.
11. Step 9 and Step 10 will improve the ranking. Yes! To an extent that it can appear as a first result or even a prized feature snippet!

Why this works? This method basically tricks google ranking system. Google will find a legitimate content on your page. It is not an exact copy of other website. Your article contains related keywords because you copied it from top 5 - 10 results. The icing on the cake is you enforce it further. You trick google further when you click on your search result and spend time on the page using a VPN. Google slowly learns that many people are clicking your page and even spending time on your page. Therefore, it must contain some good information.

If you have a google Adsense account, you can research for a very high cpc keyword. Write an article using above strategy, rank it and bring a lot of traffic. High CPC keyword + High Traffic = Huge Profit!

Steps 1 through 7 do work. It's what 99% newspapers and media do anyway, just take each others reports and modify some shit.

The last steps won't do shit for you. They're smarter than that.
 
I almost forgot to mention. Some backlinks building is required too. You are just using a mix of techniques.

I've heard of something similar but haven't seen anyone that said it actually worked for them. There's possibility of tricking Google by spending time on the content which would in turn make Google assume it deserves the first place. The first question should be, how seriously does Google take user experience and time on site, when ranking websites?

If it's on par with or above backlinks then this method would perfectly work. I'm just assuming by the way.

If you go with Yoast and looking for all checks, prepare yourself to work on a single post for the next year, year, and a half :)

Question is, will Google catch you doing all this?

Personally... I don't really like actions like this because you practically have to work too much, and it's all just a matter of days when Google will react or hours...

I'm more for good and quality work than trying to fu*k up Google.

Times have changed, so has Google, many still don't want to change their methods of work and try to keep up with some *tricks, like it's 2005 and not '21, it is really difficult, at least on a higher level.

Why would I spend time on it if I can use it and make something legitimate that can really be ranked, find keywords and everything else is at least easy today, the only question is who wants to work hard enough on their project.

1 - 7 does work
8 - 10 = only works if you use real users. ask for your friends to do this, VPNs and same machines would not work. just each of them searching once from a new residential IP address does help a lot. what helps more if they complete a CTA form. your CTA needs to be above the line and get completed as soon as possible.

Could you please elaborate more on CTA form? What are those? What type of CTA form you think works best? and What is "above the line"?

CTA = call to action form. fill this form so that you can register for a trial account. etc
above the line: you see it when you visit the page and no need to scroll down

Definitely not whitehat, it manipulates google.
But not too "blackhat" either.
 
this is just CTR / dwell time manipulation

you're almost certain to do it "wrong" and get penalized, google feeds massive amounts of user behavior data into their machine learning algorithms. They're gonna notice the IPs are VPNs, or the geos will be wrong for the query, or the user-agent strings won't look natural, or the dwell times won't look natural, or the CTR will be too high....you're gonna get something wrong.

Google has several patents about that and on the requests that you can sniff when searching and clicking you can see that googles is saving all the clicks and time info to measure pogo sticking and dwel times on Serps

Regarding to the method of generate content is also correct. You need good content as just with the clicks you wont rank, and if so, and is bad content other users will left negative UX signals that will null yours.

Regarding to if is blackhat or whitehat ... I vote for white if your content is better, as the only thing you are doing is to help a bit to put your content in to view of other users.

Google in fact does that with new content... it put new content high for some queries to see if people clicks on it. As long as a page receive clicks then the CTR history starts to be like any other ranking factor
