Hello I am designing a social networking website using buddypress which is still under major development and I want to know if having the navigation bar look similar to facebooks is illegal?

Here is a snapshot, please ignore the nav item text, as I said this is going under major construction still!

it really doesn't look exactly same, but it aint illegal unless you just literally clone the site!
 
Alright that's good, I was getting paranoid because Facebook sued a website cause of similarities. Thanks for your input!

I don't think you'll get in trouble if your site looks similar, but you will if you try to blatantly make a clone of FB, or if you trick visitors into thinking they are on FB (ie, phishing)
 
I wouldn't worry about it being illegal. Just don't rip off their site completely.

What can they actually do to you if your not fromUS and you clone facebook?
 
Far enough apart you wont have any issues. Now is your version the one I'll find sexy singles in?

Seems legit, just don't rip their CSS files and etc.
 
They don't look very similar to facebook to me...you can keep going for sure
