So As long as you don't click on any link and don't open/download any files, you'll be fine. He won't be able to keylog you and hack you.

Bro everything is encrypted, someone needs first to hack facebook server and then crack their encryption to get your ip address..

No, 99% of time it's not possible. They can't hack you just with Facebook message.

Technically, they can. They can try using phishing techniques or get him to download a harmful software

Phishing is not "technical" way to hack someone. If there is any vulnerability on Facebook which causes remote code execution, it would be the technical way.

That can also result in Facebook account takeover. Am I correct?
 
It's safe to open any message at 99% of the time. The rest is just bad luck or someone wants you down badly.
 
Just by opening messenger? Not saying no, but facebook has to have a vulnerability in order for that to happen. It is not impossible, but very improbable.

In simple words, and like others have said, don’t click on any link. You’ll be fine.
