Hey guys,

I’ve been trying to grow a fresh Instagram page over the past few weeks, mainly using Reels and consistent posting.

The weird thing is — some posts get decent reach, but most just die quickly after a few hours. It feels very inconsistent compared to what I expected.

I’m not using any automation or paid promos, just trying to keep it organic.

For those who are actively growing pages right now:

  • Is this normal with the current algorithm?
  • Does consistency eventually stabilize reach?
  • Or is there something specific that’s working better now?
Would be great to hear real experiences.

Yes, that’s pretty normal right now. Instagram’s algorithm favors early engagement, so some posts take off while others don’t. Consistency helps over time, but focusing on trends, hooks, and audience retention in Reels usually stabilizes reach faster.

Yes, this is normal right now. Reach can be very inconsistent, especially for new pages.
Just stay consistent, keep posting, and try different content styles. Over time, things usually improve

2026 algorithm shifted heavily from just rewarding consistency to acting like a strict recommendation engine that only cares about retention. if your reels aren't getting immediate rewatches, saves, or shares in dms, they will just kill the reach after a few hours no matter how often you post.

What changes should I make to improve rewatches and engagement ?

Many people mistakenly believe that with Reels, you automatically get traffic simply by posting. However, the reality is now closer to this:

A single piece of content is repeatedly "tested" by the algorithm, rather than being distributed all at once.

Therefore, the "instability" you observe is actually the normal state of things.

Instagram growth is totally giving "struggle bus" these days, it's not just you. You gotta literally be riding those trends and posting super engaging reels consistently to even stand a chance

Yeah it;'s totally normal, you’re not doing anything wrong. Instagram in 2026 behaves like a recommendation engine. That means every Reel algorithm gets tested in small scales first, then they will sg to the same TA for you.

Reels man; post reels with hashtags and you will get good reach. Just make sure to follow the TOS on posting since that will help make sure the post gets exposure without getting any restrictions. In addition; posting 15-20 second clips help.

it's understandable cause they changed their algorithm, now they prefer slow grow at first to test audiences for you, then you can go long term with the right audiences ig chose for u

It's definitely not just you. Instagram's organic reach in 2026 is much more 'hit or miss' than it used to be. The algorithm seems to test your content with a small group first, and if they don't engage immediately, it just kills the reach.

Consistency does help, but it’s more about 'Signal' consistency than just posting every day. Try to focus on shares and saves rather than just likes—those are the metrics that usually push Reels into the wider explore page lately.

Yes, post short reels (18–45 seconds) with hashtags to increase reach. Always adhere to the Terms of Service (TOS) to avoid visibility restrictions.

If your "Watch Time" or "Completion Rate" drops in the first 2 seconds, the algorithm kills the Reel immediately to save server bandwidth for viral content.

Yeah, this is pretty normal right now. Instagram growth has gotten a lot less predictable, especially with reels

In this year inconsistent reel reach is the new normal as the algorithm prioritizes over posting frequency to stabilize reach.

IG tests reels to small audience first and if retention isn’t strong it just stops pushing. that’s why some pop and others die fast. consistency helps but not enough alone. biggest thing now is hook and keeping people watching till the end.
