Hey,

After the latest updates and SERP changes, I’m starting to wonder—is Google slowly killing organic SEO for small players?

Now we’re seeing:
  • AI overviews taking over the top of search,
  • More space for ads and YouTube,
  • Fewer clicks going to actual websites,
  • Big brands dominating even low-competition keywords.
For solo site builders and SEOs, is the game getting rigged? Or are there still legit opportunities to rank and earn—just with smarter strategies?

I’d love to hear what others think:
  • Are you still ranking new sites in 2025?
  • Is SEO turning into pay-to-play?
  • Or is this just another cycle of adaptation?
Let’s talk. I think this is one of the biggest shifts happening right now.

Nah not specifically for small players. Google is killing SEO for those who don't know how to play the game when the rules change. It's nothing new, this is what have been happening for years with every new update.

Google isn't "killing " SEO for small players, but it's demanding a higher level of quality, authenticity, and user-centricity. The "game" is evolving from technical tricks to genuinely helpful, expertly crafted content that solves user problems. Small businesses that embrace this shift, focus on their unique local expertise, and build strong direct relationships with their audience will not only survive but can actually thrive in the new search landscape of 2025.

A lot of things are changing and a lot of old tactics are going to end. Only those who will experiment and apply new tactics can survive. Also demand for more skilled seo players is going t be there because ranking now is going to bring more new challenges.

If rules are changing, it's better to learn new rules. But yes things are more tough now. A lot of people left blogging too.

Is Google Killing SEO for Small Players in 2025?
In my eyes, Google is being "forced" to do so.

Why?

Google must trust websites it has always trusted as authorities in their respective niches, given that most online authority signals can be relatively manipulated these days, making it difficult for Google to "trust" new websites.

Same old same old, google has been doing that ever since

Nothing new, but AI is speeding it up, making small websites and small businesses having even less chances than before

The playing field will always keep changing, you need to adapt to keep thriving - that’s part of the reason why ranking is still profitable, if it was easy it wouldn’t be.
