is Google AI snippet destroying SEO?

You're correct - AI snippets give users answers right away, so fewer people may click the top 10 results. SEO now needs to focus on making content engaging and adding media that encourages people to explore your page.

Jokes aside, those who know how to stay on top will usually always find a way to get back there, but I myself couldn't. The websites I maintained fell in the rankings more than I ever imagined.

AI powered snippets are changing user behavior by providing answers directly on the search results page, which can lead to fewer clicks on the top 10 results. Nobody wants to make a very valuable site, let AI scrape everything and then be glad it gets citations in these aggregators and pray that more than 1 in 250 users will view (click) the actual source (or even less than that).

It will reach a boiling point in which a collective measure will be taken, from top to bottom or the other way around. At the moment, citations are a joke, they are making every effort to NOT send traffic to anyone.


A ban on AI scrappers and chatbots will not be sustainable for the aggregators (LLMs) especially when it comes to fresh data - as all the old data has been already taken (pretty much stolen).

Or so I wish it will happen :) Otherwise, a very few people will be soo happy to get citations in AI overviews or other outputs, be happy with receiving a ton less traffic than they deserve and we will all move to other businesses. And the web will die.

Yeah, it's definitely a shift. The game never stays still. Instead of just chasing positions, it's about making sure your material directly answers the query and makes them want more. You gotta capture their interest even with a short preview. Maybe the focus moves to building authority and direct user engagement, not just search appearance.

Yes, fewer click-throughs is true, but someone said that you just need to level up your content and AI Overview can still pull your site into its response.
 
AI snippets eating the fold hard. top-10 still ranks but traffic leaks heavy unless ur page hits the exact intent fast or gives something the snippet can’t compress. u need sharper hooks, richer blocks, unique data. generic posts get ghosted.

Yeah, AI snippets are definitely taking clicks. Google gives the answer right on top, so fewer people scroll down. Top 10 still gets traffic, but not like before. The only way to survive now is to create content that AI can’t fully summarize real insights, data, experience. Otherwise yes… clicks might be drop.
