AI Snippet gives alot of the relevant info to the user. I dont think people are gonna scroll down as much anymore and look at other info. This is a drastic change in the business of SEO I think. Are top 10 positions going to get less clicks now? I think so....

Don't hate the game just play it. Try to find the way to be featured in this snippet. But yess being in top 10 positions will not be interesting like before.

AI snippet is not the issue, hiding most results is. Earlier top 10 results used to have some chance at drawing attention. Now AI snippet blocks view completely and suggests only 3-4 sites. Most users just leave without even visiting them. Some users might be seeing stable traffic because of ranking on top and not seeing AI snippet as a threat. If their ranking drops 2-3 positions, their traffic could disappear overnight.

Yes clicks will probably go down because AI snippets answer most questions directly so just having a high ranking may not bring in the same amount of traffic anymore

Google’s AI snippets are changing things. Users get most of the info without clicking, so it feels like fewer people are visiting actual sites now. SEO might get a lot harder.

What to do now? Previously the compition is between top 10 now it's limited to top 3. I don't think it is worth the time
It depends on the niche. Informational content is not longer bringing traffic. AI is so good at things that personal AI assistants might replace Google search in future. I myself found it easy to use chatgpt for coding related issues instead of searching for them on Google. So, while Google is slowly stealing our traffic, AI is slowly replacing Google.

The AI snippet is eating a huge chunk of some types of searches, but not all, mainly simple questions with clear answers. In the past, the traffic would go to the blogs for the answers while now people ask their question in Google, read the AI answer and move on without clicking on anything. At the same time, many people are not directing their simple questions at Google at all and are asking AIs like ChatGPT directly.

Yeah I’ve noticed the same thing lately Traffic from top positions feels lower even when rankings stay the same Seems like AI snippets are taking a big share of clicks now

Google’s AI snippets give quick answers, which can cut organic traffic, focus on structured data and engaging content to stay visible

To add to your nightmares, Google is testing AI meta descriptions. So what's your countermove?

Not destroying SEO. It helps user to gain extra traffic.
I don't understand this. Users are not interested in traffic, they're interested in finding out the answer to their questions (I assume you are talking about google users, by the way).

But if you're talking about SEOs / webmasters, then the AI is actually destroying SEO since these people almost never get traffic now that google's stealing their content and displays it as "generative AI" when in reality it's just corporate-level stolen content that's being rewritten...

So please, explain what you mean by that statement, as I'm a bit confused :)

AI snippets are changing user behavior. For informational intent keywords, we’re already seeing a noticeable drop in clicks since much of the answer is provided directly in the snippet.

However, when it comes to commercial and transactional keywords, users still need to visit websites to compare, evaluate, and complete purchases. That means those queries will continue driving clicks, even if informational ones take a hit.

Yeah totally, AI snippets are kinda stealing the spotlight, so even top 10 might see fewer clicks now. SEO's game is definitely shifting.

All the replies to the post are correct, just shift your strategy to the new era.
