Is Google About to Crack Down on AI Content?

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about where SEO and content are headed.

With AI-generated content popping up all over the place, I can’t help but wonder how long before Google starts cracking down on it?

Right now, Google says it doesn’t care how content is created, as long as it’s helpful. But let’s be real not all AI content is high-quality. A lot of it just feels like filler.
If this trend keeps growing, is a major update targeting AI content coming soon?

But in my point of view, I’d recommend keeping the important pages written by humans to stay future-proof.

What strategies are you using to balance AI + Human touch in your content?

Curious to see where everyone stands on this!

They been cracking down on AI content since HCU. But they can't tell unless your content uses the default gpt style and/or has high publishing velocity and no authority. They can't tell the difference easily, that's why a lot of good websites with human content have been hit too.
 
You initial question raises a lot behind

Because any (good) AI writing tool will soon regenerate until it passes the couple of AI detection tools --> so by principle it will soon be undetectable, at least automatically, even for google. So the google saying "they don't care as long as content is good" is a good principle for user, but also probably because they have no technical choice. At the moment, my best "detection" criteria is that for long texts, the AI repeats itself with other words, which a human would never do. So usually I ask x3 more words than necessary and I delete/merge a lot. So it eats my time.
What I would care much more are:
  • the frequently complete inaccuracy of some of the responses. Even if you lower the temperature a lot, and put some boundaries and context in your prompt. I have seen examples where it did completely invent a book, it's ISBN, author and title when I was asking for the reference. And that is just one example
  • and the worst is that these AI generated data are feeding the next AI ... so a very vicious loop, unless you trained with very restricted/controlled content ... who usually do not agree for free except Wikipedia --> so AI would not be well trained
 
I’ve been thinking about the same thing lately. Google’s current stance sounds fair—“helpful content is what matters”—but it’s clear they’re watching how things play out.

AI tools have made it super easy to churn out content fast, and while some of it’s decent, a lot still lacks depth or originality. That might be fine short-term, but I don’t think it’ll fly forever. If too many people abuse AI without adding real value, I wouldn’t be surprised if Google tightens the rules or updates the algorithm again.

Personally, I use AI to brainstorm, outline, or clean up grammar—but I always add my own voice, stories, and insights to make the piece feel more real. Especially for key pages like service descriptions, reviews, or anything evergreen, I keep it human-written.

AI is a tool, not a replacement. Mixing both with care seems like the smartest long-term strategy.

Curious—how are others deciding what should be AI-assisted vs. fully written by hand?

Yeah, I’m with you HCU really changed the game.

I’ve seen it too, if you're putting out a lot of content quickly and your site doesn’t have much authority, it seems to set off alarms, especially if the writing sounds too “AI-like.” But honestly, it’s getting tough to tell what’s AI and what’s not these days.

What’s crazy is that good, well wrote content by real people also has been affected. Feels like unless your site has strong authority behind it, no one’s really safe. lol

Yeah man, you made some good points.

AI has gotten so good, it’s really hard to tell if something was written by a bot or a human. That’s probably why Google just says, “as long as it’s helpful,” they might not have a solid way to check it either.

I’ve noticed the same thing with AI repeating itself. It keeps saying the same idea over and over in different words. Your method of making it write more and then trimming it down is smart, but yeah, it definitely takes time.

Are you using any tools to speed up that cleanup process?
 
If you ask me, In my opinion Google doesn't check for AI. And when they check then only pages with a good ranking. It's simply to much computation to check every site every blog

Same here, bro. I use AI for drafts and grammar, but when it’s a money page or something important, I keep it real and write it myself.

Yeah true, no way Google’s checking every blog, But there is a chance that they will be eyeing the ones climbing the ranks.

Expect more HCU updates coming in the following months. The 10th version of the guidelines (and following updates) is aimed specifically to target filler content. They are training their machine to identify filler patterns. Probably it will bring down thousands of legit sites that might happen to be wrong in their eyes.

The main problem I see with Google nowadays, is that they are fighting ant colonies with self-raised ants, so now we have ants all over the place.

Some years in the past they felt in the crest of the wave using a super fast micro LLM that noone had available and could classify content with astounding quality for the moment. But nowadays, people is building content with 10x better llms that the ones they are using for classification. So the war is becoming cruel and will be up only until the searches start to decay for a solid alternative that replaces our "searching habits". I remember back in the day the "churn and burn tactics" were something used seldomly by crazy blackhatters. Nowadays, C&B is the norm.
 
Google's algorithm can't really distinguish between purely AI-generated content, human-written articles, or a mix of both. Therefore, Google only emphasizes that the content must be useful. Nowadays, it’s best if Google can confirm that you're a real person or company, which significantly helps your ranking. Logically, this indicates you're at least accountable for the content you publish, making Google more willing to endorse you.

Next, you need backlinks, which essentially are endorsements from other websites. Without these backlinks, it takes a long time for your content to gain Google's trust. Once Google trusts you, they'll place you on the first page, effectively endorsing you, while also testing how your content performs. If engagement is high, your page stays on the first page. If engagement is low, your rank drops to the second page or further down.

As for whether your content is AI-generated or not, Google genuinely doesn't care. As long as your content aligns with their policies, isn’t spammy, is helpful, and easy for the algorithm to understand, your website will rank. Honestly, Google doesn't care how your content was created or whether it violates copyright. As long as the search engine consistently provides useful solutions, attracts users to return, and keeps selling ads, they continue making money.
 
I think AI content performs well in some niches, but not as much in others. It's ok to use AI-generated content, but make sure to optimize it to avoid plagiarism. Google's latest update shows that AI content can negatively impact your site's SEO ranking.
 
I think Google’s gonna tweak algo soon, AI is getting too lazy, but for now, quality wins.
 
Balancing AI and human touch is key—use AI for efficiency, but rely on human creativity for critical pages to ensure quality and future-proof your content against potential updates.
 
I think now >90% of content is AI generated, so it is almost impossible for Google to ban on just AI usage detection...

Still I am avoiding making websites fully generated by AI, there should be unique mix with other types of content, and user should get some useful products from that.
 
Most of my sites are built with AI content, and the entire backlink profile is created using SEO automation tools totally AI generated content. Before the AI era, it was all about scraping and spinning...

For me, I can’t think of doing anything without AI now.

It is good if it is working for you...but in my case i do everything manual (spinning) and all the other stuff and all this hard work pays off very well...I want to share some of my success screen shots but the forum is not allowing me yet

I own handful websites. I would say more than 80 active sites so far. Plus english is. My fourth langualge. For last decade i never written anything myself honestly....niw totallly addoct to ai and automation even easier than never before
