In a bid to attract more backlinks to my client's Care App website, myself and the marketing team are thinking of offering free guest posting to the App/Tech sector.

The blogs we create would be genuine, expert and original articles but would just contain a contextual link back to the client's website using natural, branded anchor text.

There's been a lot of mixed opinion about whether guest posting is as 'white hat' as some people make it out to be. So I am just wondering what BHW's opinion on this method would?

Of course, it's white hat. Ask yourself do you want to rank or not? If you don't build links you won't rank for anything except low comp. keywords that nobody searching for.

Thought as much, but I've read that if Google catches on that a website has been using guest posting then it can effectively disavow the links or even penalise as they're not perceived as 'genuine'.

Don't worry just diversify a little bit. It does not work like that otherwise nobody would rank, everyone would be penalized.

However Guest Posting is not effective if the DA and level of the traffic to the site is low.

You need to get some sample guest blog posts ready before you start pitching.

It also helps your guest posts are on topics the publishers supply - this will boost your publication success rate

That depends on the type of link they are pointing to.
If you provide too many do-follow links to low authority sites, it will harm your site's Google PR.

I don't quite understand your question, OP; are you asking if you should get guest posts that point to your site OR if you should allow guest post submissions on your website?
Guest posts that point to our clients site - there's a lot of sites that offer a 'Write For Us' service and we're wondering if Google would look unfavourably at these sort of sites.
