Hi! I've been thinking to get into blogging (a total newbie) and concerned about if it is extremely tough to rank your site and generate a good income?
I have researched a bit and I understand that it will take time to generate traffic (6 months - 1.5 years approx, I am okay with that ) but I would like to know if putting in efforts(learning everything from scratch) will be worth it where I have absolutely no network whatsoever with other bloggers for guidance/help.

Blogging is now not as strong a used to be but it is still a great platform for giving user the long form type content that many social media ones do not possess. It is the content and type of it that is determing of the success!

No it's not but is tough and getting tougher every year.

Blogging isnt dead....but it's not easy. On page seo has to be very good and you will need money for backlinks.

Choose easy keywords to get you started.

As long as people use search engines blogs will not die, the question is how difficult and what angle or leverage you have to compete

Shreya, Since you ae a beginner I would advice you not to think much about earnings at this stage. Start with a blog on the topics / niche of your choice. Build some useful authentic content and then revenue will start coming in slowly.

There are bloggers who started it out of their passion and and today earning 3 to 4 figures income or even more than that.

Consistency and motivation is the key here. I wish you all the best for your journey!

P.S. - As far as networking is concerned, you are in BHW one of the most prominent and helping community of professionals. You can network and learn many new things here.

Anything that's worth something is going to take work. It's not easy. But your approach may be the issue here. SEO is something people are passionate about. People geek out over SEO, backlinks, content optimization, keyword research etc. It is a data driven space tbh so you have to be somewhat analytical to understand the technical aspects. What I am trying to say is that if you are genuinely interested in blogging, then you will make it in the end. Even robotic SEO practitioners start making money because they enjoy what they do. But if your sole purpose of doing this is to make money (without genuine interest) then it will be a very uphill battle. You will be miserable because learning SEO is not easy, there are so many moving parts that only someone who is actually interested in the science behind it is able to understand, remember and implement things the right way. It is different if you are a corporation with an army of workers, but doing this on your own is not an easy job.

@shreya_ He has given a very valuable piece of advice for you. I agree with what he has said.

See, BHW has already started working for you :D

Like anything, over time it slowly begins to become more saturated. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that there’s a very real possibility that you can earn a decent living with the right niche.

It’s not going to be easy, but it’s still possible to start out as a newbie & rank/make a generous income with blogging.

If you start blogging just for the money you will fail except you have a passion for that topic.

And expect that your first sites most likely will also fail because seo is a neverending story.

Sounds demotivating but that's the truth.

This is the 100% truth.

Make sure your passionate about your topic otherwise you will burn out quickly.

Imagine someone offered to pay you $100 an hour to dig holes in the ground.

The money can be enticing at first but after 2-3 months you'll probably hate it.

I think I didn't put the post in the right manner and it came out as doing it for money.
A little context - I have been in stock markets for about a year and still am into that. I, however, end up with a lot of free time. I have written SEO friendly content for approx. 2 years in multiple niches for others as a freelancer, never thought of going out on my own and start my own blog. Wanted to utilize that free time and focus just on putting valuable high quality content while I slowly learn other areas of blogging but no doubt I would like to monetize on something I will have worked for after a certain period of time. If you are putting time in something, why not do it in a way it can help you in future?
Please, let me know if I am not thinking in the right way!

You need to learn these two things to get started:
1. Building a site - WordPress is easy and used by many
2. Keyword Research - You absolutely need to master this before you write anything at all, good keywords = good rankings = less $ spent ranking the site

I got your point.

You are doing the right thing for sure.

I missed to point one very important thing in my earlier post. I am adding it here.
Even though you start blogging out of passion and to utilize your free time, make sure to choose your niche wisely. This is a single most important point that you need to be very careful about. It can make or break your blogging career.

I will put it further simple for you - If you choose a niche that has very low value in terms of CPC, traffic, affiliate money then you can not earn good revenue despite putting lot of efforts in it.

Instead if you choose a niche that is less saturated and have high value CPC, affiliate products and good traffic then you will see success very soon with less efforts.

So just do some initial research on which niche you should start blogging about. (To give you a head start these niches are considered high profitable - Insurance, Personal Finance, Investing, Blogging, Health and Wellness, Self Care, Food, etc.)

Thank you so much, getting started on it right away!

Everything takes time. Same with blogging. You need to put some effort, time, and money to make this work.
