Hey, guys. I wonder whether the blog comment with a backlink is still effective for link building after big G's updates this year. I am engaged in building backlinks these days but really confused about it. Any reply will help. Thank you.:o

A comment backlink if it is from a high pr, d0follow blog with low obl and in your niche is still a good thing.
Mass comment blasting is being used more for indexing lower tiers than for backlinking.

they have both short and long time effect, getting top comment is good, since then you can drive traffic simultaneuosly

The problem with blog comments as for tier 1 is that you literally have no control of OBL. The day you post it could have just 15 OBL, one month later it could be 150 ...

Sherwin, I am not sure about this but I don't think blog comments with self-promotional links will give you a long-term success. We all know that most blogs are moderated and if a link is detected, it often goes to the "for approval" queue.

Instead, I'd recommend that you do your blog commenting campaign by using your social media accounts such as Facebook and Twitter. If you comment on someone else's blog gets to the top as one of the most liked comments, people will get intrigued at what you do. So, they'll click on your profile (the one that shows on your comment) and they'll be redirected to your social media account (FB or Twitter). Your social media profile will do the introduction (or selling if you like) on who you are and what you do. This is what we do for our clients who are using our blog commenting service.

I hope that helps, Sherwin.

Yes. Still working blog comments. But manual only not for bot related commenting. If you're do gonna be penalty from google. Per day 5 -15 comments better and best too.

The auto spam shit is dead. Best practice is to find blog comment page with PR, spam protection, OBL under 30, relevance (IMPORTANT: But optional) and make useful comment. If you have 100 of these type of comment you would rank easily for medium competition keywords.

If everyone can do it, then it's not effective....the only things that work are the ones you discover on your own, which some idiot has not posted to their SEO blog yet in exchange for 1000 visitors.

This is the main issue in my opinion. You have very little control over the quality of the links you build this way.

Do not be confused, a good backlink profile would include a mixture of most link types. Get some quality blog comments as well but by no means make it your only method of ranking for keywords.

Thank you all very much for your helpful replies. Actually I do blog comment manually for my money site and the blog content is selected via G alerts related to my niche. Link building is really a pain and I was afraid that blog comment is a waste of time after several google updates. And now, I think I've got the answer. It works but needs techniques. Thank you all again.

I make my blog comments to highly relevant pages only. I write my comments the same way that I write for my money site. In other words, it's a high quality and thought provoking comment. If I can't provide value then I don't comment. I can get my comments through to most moderated blogs this way, even .edu and .gov blogs. Getting moderated comments is better because the page won't get spammed to death. You don't want a backlink from a page with a ton of spammy links.

I don't normally worry about pr but I make sure that it's highly relevant. I think it would seem weird to G if all of the blog comments were only to high pr sites. In my opinion, relevancy and adding value is the key to blog commenting. I want my comments to be high quality also in hopes of getting some traffic to my sites. Kill 2 birds with one stone by getting a backlink and some traffic.

@OP: Everything works perfect, if done correctly. Try to comment on your niche relevant blog posts and make sure your comment is not like "Thank you, Nice post, Good share etc..".

Agreeing with john. You have to look for OBL as if it is a list shared on some public site thn there are more chances that you will be hammered because it would already been spammed otherwise getting good sites/Low spam to comment on by yourself can be profitable.

if you want to get a good comment backlink I suggest you go on porn sites... those have a really low OBL

yes blog commenting still alive and useful link building idea but if you use the keyword by your NAME...not any other targeted keywords..

Blog commenting is still alive and it's the good thing in link building. But make sure with the posting comment which should be the niche relevant and worth to place the link on it.

Hi,
Google gave some guidelines for blog commenting. It said blog you are going to be comment should be high PR and comments must have value.
So...don't confused....cheers

Why not? of course it is actual in case you are not spamming. Relevant comments are useful sometimes.
