VMWare works well for installing Ubuntu, XP and Vista on your Mac. My suggestion would be to use a mouse that has a right click button as the control click didn't seem to work under Vista.
I asked this a couple of days ago without response - guess I should have search the forum better. No one responded unfortunately so I tested myself. Unique Content Maker works Mac under Vista without problem. Extremely convenient.

There are applications that would work on a MAC. Few but yes there are. I remember there is a tool called Market Samurai which requires Adobe AIR to function. I believe that one worked on the MAC.

Well a Mac is expensive and does what an ordinary notebook can do easily
and yes i hear it's mostly web coders and designers who use mac most of the time.
So a mac has more Cons then Pros...

So, most of you hate PCs, you just use them to make money? . Yes, MACs look nice, they don't get infected with virii, and you can do a thousand multimedia tricks with them. Still, it's that ugly PC that makes you money, go figure.
P.S.: I work with a mac (vfx, motion graphics), but there are things you just can't use it for.

Now I am pretty curious as to what sort of software you and your programmer were talking about.
Unless it is JAVA you can pretty much forget about an easy conversion to Mac OS/X if you ask me. Now there are some toolkits that make conversions "easy" but I am guessing that if the windows app was coded using one of those, then there would already be a Mac version.
Apart from JAVA "applications" or stuff made with Adobe Air I haven't seen ANY IM related software for OS/X.
If you know of any, please do post a list!

Brings out the flame warrior in even the best of us.
Personally I use a PC because it's an effective tool and serves my purposes. It allows me to use the programs i need to make money, and play the games I want to play for entertainment. If the situation was reversed, I would use a Mac.
No loyalty either way (If I was going Loyalty I'd still be using my Atari ST), but it is what it is.
