Is ahrefs still good ?

Hello everyone,
I have a small website and i want to find some good, low competition keywords. I know there are a lot of sellers out there offering you to find those for you but i want to do it myself cos in the past i bought it from two sellers with all "100% guarantee wont fail" claims and the outcome was...
Im not claiming to be an expert but maybe if i invest my time into this i could get better results ?
Anyway after doing a bit of research i found out that i should avoid MOZ and go for Ahrefs BUT after visiting this thread https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/ahrefs-dr-major-update.1005609/ i am worried that it might not be the best tool for the job anymore ? What about Semrush ? is it still reliable ? Thanks

If you are only going to do keyword research, then I would recommend KWfinder.

Ahrefs is awesome for checking backlinks and competitions. Its keyword research is nice to play around with aswell.

For only keyword research - KWfinder
For backlink/competitions check + keywords - Ahrefs

Ahref is fine even after the update. It was "just" a metric update.

Ahrefs is the best for backlinks not for keyword search.
I myself use Semrush for keyword research but KWfinder or even keywordrevealer not bad

From what i read in the thread, people were not very happy with how ahrefs handle things and that it makes their date irellevant ? The reason why i want to go with something like ahrefs is because i want not only to find keywords but to see how hard would it be to rank for them and i thought that ahrefs would be good for that but now im worried that it might not be. People were saying that you couldnt tell by the ahrefs data if the pages ranking for specific keyword have good or bad links and if you could go for that keyword.
