From my experience, yes - a high bounce rate affect your site, especially if it shows users are not finding what they need. While google says bounce rate is not a direct ranking factor. I believe it still plays a role in how your site is seen. If people land on your page and leave right away, it sends a signal that your content might not be helpful or relevant to their search, which can affect your rankings over time. To lower bounce rate, try making your content more clear and your site easier to use:
  • Make your site load fast and work well on phones.
  • Write content that's easy to read and gives people what they are looking for.
Have you noticed changes in traffic or rankings when your bounce rate goes up or down?

You're right- while bounce rate might not be direct ranking factor, it still gives strong hints about user experience. I've seen sites improve ranking just by improving content flow and adding internal links to guide visitors. Instead of focusing too much on bounce rate alone, I focus on engagement-like time on Page and click-throughs to other pages. Those seem to make a real difference over time.
 
Depends on how you define bounce rate.
1. I check your site, bounce back and click on the other site - BAD bounce rate.
2. I check your site, bounce back and search for something else - GOOD bounce rate as I found what I was looking for. Example: I search for London weather, go to BBC, check the weather and bounce back. I found what I needed. End of story.

Also, bounce rate is much more complicated as we like shopping around.
So when you look for a new mobile contract you will check a number of sites and bounce back... is it bad???
 
I completely agree that bounce rate is a good indicator of user happiness even though it may not be a direct ranking element. Google detects trends if users bounce quickly. Yep, bounce rate won’t tank your rankings on its own, but if everyone’s running away like your site’s on fire, Google’s gonna notice. Think of it like a party—if guests walk in and leave in 3 seconds, something smells off. Make your site fast, useful, and not look like it was built in 2003, and people might actually stick around.

You are right, not all bounces are bad. It depends on user intent. If they find right what they need and leave, that's fine. But if they bounce and keep searching,it may signal that the content didn't help. Context matters more than just the number.

yes it is affecting! especially when you have not being getting enough organic traffic before
