Internal Linking Question: Say one is ranking on page one for "best holiday gifts", but isn't in the top 3 results, what is the best way to use internal linking for better ranking (if at all it makes a difference) -

  1. Send internal links from any relevant page of the website (let's say 20+) to the holiday page with anchor text "best holiday gifts"
  2. Use exact + partial anchor text, but from as many pages as you can find
  3. Use only a few relevant pages to create internal links (exact + partial match)
  4. Something else?

before we can provide a suggestion, can you tell us if you have any other pages that might be competing with with the page in question for the keyword that you are talking about?

also, do you have access to screaming frog?

No other page that is competing.

i personally do this: from my main other pages I do exact match interlinking, and also in the footer of my site, I do exact match link to that page also. i have had luck doing it this way.

also, on few of my pages, i create a button that has that keyword as a label and directs the user to that page.
