Internal Linking Anchor Text - Does it Matter?

Hi all, I've got some blog posts that have a lot of links pointing back to them and I want to link to other internal pages from these particular blog posts.

The problem is, anchor text.

It doesn't fit into the post naturally.

I just want to pass link juice to other internal pages.

Is this an issue or could I get away with partial keywords as anchor text?

I do as Wikipedia does, not sure if that’s perfect but it seems to do alright

I usually would, but in this case it's pretty impossible without it looking odd.

for example , the exact anchor text I need could be - big fat burger.

I can only use the word burger.

Why can you only use the word ' burger' ?

You could easily add another sentence such as; There's nothing more satisfying than a cold drink to go with your big fat burger while watching sports on tv.
 
Depends how much you love quality, I'd tweak it to make it look natural or create more content for those anchors.

Yes, it affects seo. I do remember I had a site that I interlinked everything with exact match kw and it didn't rank. I changed the anchors and it worked!

So exact match anchors didn't work for you but partial match anchors did?

I think this is okay
 
I never interlink to just one word (as your example "burger"), i prefer to have a at least 2-3 words this way the visitors also get to see it and might click on it, with just one word he might not even see the interlink.
 
Just a suggestion, but you can add a little paragraph with the exact match anchor,
for the example above,
"If a small burger is not enough for you, you can always go for a big fat burger from time to time, which can be better for some people"
(I know, I'm not that good at writing :D)

I once changed the name in the menu from "home" to the keyword and it went from #9 to #1
 
Yes, internal linking anchor text always matter if you want to rank for your keywords, you can also use different variations of your anchor text to do internal linking. anchor text gives signal to search engines about the target page information and also boost page rank, decrease bounce rate and dwell rate.
 
It does not need to be exact match buddy, if you put "big burger" which seems more natural, it gives the same juice and people will click more likely on big burger than "fat big burger" in an article. Think always about what seems the more natural to readers
 
Yep, in my opinion, internal linking anchor text always matters! If you want to rank for your keywords, no matter what, it is always best to keep your anchors relevant. Feel free to add a few sentences to your old content and interlink...
