Instagram and App Promotion: Any experience?

I see a lot of people using Instagram to monetize CPA offers or give shout-outs to make profits here on BHW, so I'm curious to learn could Instagram be used to monetize apps(specifically iOS/Android games) successfully?

I've only heard of a few app developers doing this since not many people go into apps, and have heard a lot of top app publishers use social media to drive a majority of traffic to their games(think Color Switch), so I wanted to get feedback on what you guys think.
