Hi,

did anyone else's google SERP get infinite scrolling instead of pagination?

And what do you think of this new change (if it IS something that google purposely implemented instead of being a glitch or something)? Personally, I think that - of all of the evils that google are pulling lately - this is the least damaging for SEOs if I may say so :)

EDIT: mods, please move this to the WH forum if it's no problem as I think it fits better in there, I don't know why I've opened it in the lounge...

Last year they said it will be implemented. Anyways I always set results per page to 100, probably many do.

Yeah I've seen this on several accounts over the last month or so. You can turn it off in search settings > continuous scrolling
I generally think it's an improvement - scrolling is easier than navigating pagination.

It's gonna make some scrapers need to update things. I think I've already seen some Scrapebox complaints relating to it.

It has been a thing on mobile for quite some time now. I've been getting infinite scrolls on chrome mobile since atleast mid 2022 as far I can recall.
Maybe I am in some experimental group because i am using Chrome Canary.

Infinite search is pretty good imo since an average user will not realize when they fly off to page 2 (which happens quite often with niche keywords) :). Earlier with pagination prolly less than 0.1% searches went beyond page 1.

I think they implemented it in the end of last year/start 2023 for mobile. If you scroll down you are basically at page five iirc.

never heard of it... or I forgot...

yep, I too think it's a good thing (on the surface at least)...

The tools will adapt... I mean, they have to :)

I don't know about mobile devices as I don't use them, but yeah it should help SEOs a little bit after the devastation that they've suffered lately...

I am speaking about desktop, though, I never cared about mobile devices :)

Yup, me too, I got the same, it's on chrome mobile since a long time.

Personally I don't like it, it adds more distraction, but you can still turn it off.

I've had it for over a year now I think. I dont like it personally, prefer good old pagination.

This is something nice.
Now ranking beyond the top 10 will bring some fruits too.

I mean, to be fully honest I prefer pagination, too. But from a SEO point of view and when you think what shows up on the 1st page lately for a lot of keywords, I'd rather google users infinite-scroll than never click on pages 2+

yeah, I prefer pagination too (as a google user I mean), but as a SEO I think this is better for us given the hammers we got with the latest updates...

By the way, @Setox said you can disable it, so have a look around the settings to see if you can turn it off

Hmm, I don't have that on desktop :(
hmm, probably it's still a test only... or - knowing google and how they're always up to sneaky stuff - maybe they only enable it by default for certain users who match whichever criteria...

my thoughts exactly...

Well, work for sure requires a different setup.

As for the ability to turn it off, I just google it & it seems google deleted that option a long time ago, or maybe only for mobile.

I noticed this on desktop a couple of days ago. I like it so far.
