Indexed page decrease from more than 20 pages in google search results to just 5 pages

My pages were indexed very well, then one day I text site:mysite
then see that indexed pages decrease from more than 20 pages in google search results to just 5 pages.
Then I audit my website again because there are quite a lot of product pages has the same meta description.
Should I continue to work with this site.
Thanks.

You should be using gsc to index your pages. If your indexing them another way they were likely removed as serp because of the updates and wont ever come back.

It's some kind of penalty or blacklisting,
I get these most of the time for failed testing websites with thin & spammy content,
You can still get it recovered tho, I've seen many people doing so,
Get ride of any problem may be causing this,
Get some better content if you're able to, and invest in some decent links

I have also observed this deindexing of pages after the recent google update. Earlier my site had 1100+ indexed pages. Today it is showing 1023 indexed only. Not many got deindexed, but the matter of concern here is that they got deindexed for sure and it happened after the recent Google update. Not sure if G will continue deindexing further.

If that is so, then it is a matter of concern. Let's see what happens.

yes, i just use instant index plugin to submit the link to ggcs and gg now.

So you were de-serped, not deindexed? just check gsc if you got de-indexed. if you got deserped thats no big deal, your just dancing. Site: is useless now days.

it is still indexed in gcs but in gg search pages, it usually decreases after I updated new products.

Google may not be able to easily crawl it. that’s y your indexed page count begins to decrease

Reason :
1.Google penalty
2.Pages are irrelevant
3.Google can’t crawl your pages.

Diagnose and fix the issue :

1.Make sure each page proper 200 HTTP Header Status.
2.Check recently changed permalink or not
3.Duplicate content issues
4.Site may be hacked or DDOS attacks(check in google webmaster tool security warning).
5.Check with developer proper robots txt file imported or not (bot checking).
