    Hi guys

    To the iMacros experts out there (I've been hearing about iMacros for a while, only just started experimenting with it today though), is it possible for iMacros to change proxies itself?

    For example, if it's hitting the same site (ie creating profiles), can it be programmed to change the proxy every 2 or 3 loops?

    My second question is, if it can be done, how? My basic understanding is that it would need a list of proxies to go off, but from this point I have no idea how it could change them so that the browser appears like it's coming from different IPs....

    Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated!

    Cheers

    Seven.

    I did a bit of a dig around, came across this site (I can't post links) where the guy detailed how he goes about setting up the proxies by changing them from the about config page in Firefox.

    It seems pretty smart, sounds like it would work from the little I know. I haven't tried it yet - TBH I'm not a programmer, so will just have to try this out without spending countless hours on it....!

    Cheers

    even you can change the proxy, you stil need to clear the cookie
    the best solution is to program it instead of using imacro IMO

    Ah good point. How would you go about programming a "cookie clearance"....?

    If you're talking about iMacros via the Firefox plug-in it is possible. You just have to create a proxy changing script.

    Google "imacros firefox proxy" it's the 3rd result and you'll find some info that'll point you in the right direction. (I can't post the specific sites URL yet because I don't have enough posts)

    I personally use the iimRunner which launches firefox sessions for me. The cookie problem is easily solved simply by setting firefox's privacy settings to never remember history. This makes it so every firefox session is a new one. If you don't intend to use iimRunner it's still possible to do with csv files, just uglier. Good luck.

    Ah, very nice advice, thanks! I didn't know about iimRunner, that's a handy little thing. I'm sure I can figure out a way to implement this.

    Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I'm not a programmer, so I'd have NO idea where to start with that. Even looking at iMacros is making me break out in cold sweat....lol. But I appreciate a challenge, so I'll see how far I can take this.

    Unless of course you're offering your services....?!

    Hi newbie yourself ;)

    I'd recommend starting on the iMacros tutorials on the official site, they can help get you started. That's where I am at the moment

    I can't post links, so you'll have to Google it - search for "wiki" and of course iMacros and "tutorials"

    I'm not a programmer, but I've managed to figure iMacros out. (Flash is dam tricky and Visual Basic makes my head explode.) What's nice about it is you can just hit the record button and you'll have SOMETHING to fiddle with.

    I believe imacros has a "CLEAR" command: "Clears the browsers cache and all cookies on the hard drive. Can be useful, for example, to delete Web site cookies so every macro run starts at the same point. It is also useful to use this command before doing website response measurements."

    Also, in the non-free versions of imacros there's the "PROXY" command: "Connect to a proxy server to run the current macro. The iMacros Browser then connects to the Internet through a proxy server by using the settings you specify. You can define a specific proxy server for each macro. Each running instances of the iMacros Browser can have its own proxy server. "

    I found the script to run proxy on FireFox with proxy here:

    Code:
    VERSION BUILD=6240709 RECORDER=FX
    TAB T=1
    TAB CLOSEALLOTHERS
    CLEAR
    URL GOTO=about:config
    'some proxies are slow, set the timeout to 90 seconds:
    URL GOTO=javascript:gPrefBranch.setIntPref("network.http.keep-alive.timeout",600);
    URL GOTO=about:config
    'set the proxy URL
    URL GOTO=javascript:var<SP>prefb<SP>=<SP>Components.classes["@mozilla.org/preferences-service;1"].getService(Components.interfaces.nsIPrefBranch);var<SP>str<SP>=<SP>Components.classes["@mozilla.org/supports-string;1"].createInstance(Components.interfaces.nsISupportsString);str.data<SP>=<SP>"{{IP}}";prefb.setComplexValue("network.proxy.http",<SP>Components.interfaces.nsISupportsString,<SP>str);
    URL GOTO=about:config
    'set the proxy port:
    URL GOTO=javascript:gPrefBranch.setIntPref("network.proxy.http_port",{{port}});
    'share proxy settings:
    URL GOTO=about:config
    'turn the proxy on
    URL GOTO=javascript:gPrefBranch.setBoolPref("network.proxy.share_proxy_settings",true);
    URL GOTO=about:config
    'turn the proxy on
    URL GOTO=javascript:gPrefBranch.setIntPref("network.proxy.type",1);

    Just change IP and PORT with a proxy

    I tested and it worked

    But now, I want to change SOCK only, I don't want to run proxy, so how do I edit the script to change SOCK only?

    Thanks you!

    The clear command doesn't work well/if at all with Firefox last I checked. It works in the iMacros browser but I avoid the iMacros browser like the plague because it can't be threaded. This means if you run 2 different iMacros browsers and change the proxy ip on one, both sessions change. Also all cookies are shared across both sessions. Bad news!
